| The tail lights are out on a 1996 jeep cherokee laredo and dash board lights. Break lights work fine. How can I fix this problems. The fuse box and ground wire on the back have been check and are working. HELP |

What's amazing is that I replaced the entire tail light assembly on one side last year. They really don't make these things to last, do they? ;) Your fix worked like a charm. Thanks again! |

| 2002 Grand Cherokee with brake light issue. Driver-side was out, changed all 3 brake light bulbs now all 3 are out. Tried #3 but no luck. Tried all 3 metal contacts but no luck. any ideas? |

It was the ground prong behind the socket on the tail light assembly. Don't let mechanics rip you off with this easy fix. |

| 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo: Kevin from post # 3 is a genius! His fix finally worked after dealing with this problem for at least 2 years. We now finally have tail lights and brake lights. To raise the ground contact, I folded a thin strip of aluminum foil and slid it under the contact. That did the trick. Thanks you again. |

| I tried this suggestion from a Jeff in Fort Meyers Florida also and it worked for me. "This is the corrective method for your brake lights not working when your headlights are on(2000 Jeep Cherokee Larado). 1) The cause of the problem is heat from the bulb. 2) Remove the light assembly as if you were going to change a bulb. 3) Turn the socket and remove it from the taillight assembly and set it aside(check to be sure your bulb is not burnt out). 4) Look at the opening, you will see 3 flat chrome colored contacts on the assembly. 5) Notice the one by it self at the top of the opening, that is the “ground”. 6) If you look closely you will notice the plastic around the ground contact has shrunk a little bit, this caused the contact to pull away from the socket, causing the problem. 7) With a small flat head screwdriver, VERY GENTLY pry up the contact so it stays slightly upward by itself. 8) Re-insert the bulb assembly back into the housing and press your brake petal with your lights on. 9) You should be in good to go! 10) Tools: Phillips head screwdriver and a small flat head screwdriver. 11) Time : 5 minutes per light " This suggestion really works. Saved me a lot of money rather than taking to a shop. |

| the problem of the brake light was not on when brake applied was due to the light sockets themselves. One of the socket did not make contact with the tail light circuitry. The cause was one or more (left or right)sockets were bad.To solve the problem, turn on your light and remove then reinstall one by one until all the lights are on. If you have the problem with the brake light did not turn on, there must be one of the socket is bad. |

Ok I think I have you all beat! My rear middle brake light works, my hazards, blinkers and tail lights work. BOTH my brake lights DO NOT WORK.We tested the voltage on the individual rear brake light wires and we have voltage right through to the connector plug that connects to the rear tail light assembly. Therefore I tried to bend up the contacts, replaced bulbs to no avail. The brake switch can't be the problem if we have voltage coming through the line when I depress the brake pedal. So therefore its a big huge coincidence that BOTH rear brake light assemblies died at the same time and have to be replaced? Can this be correct? Any suggetions? this is a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. |

Just fixed the tail light problem on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo using Kevin's fix in post #3. It took a few attempts to get the ground contact in the correct position but everything is working great now. Thanks Kevin! |
| "Lights out, Remote start start out"
Finally some one mentioned that the tail light fuse is incorporated in the parking light fuse.That helped a lot. I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 3.1 Litre Diesel engine. Recently my Clifford remote start system stopped working. I looked and called everywhere to find details of this system, but in Spain no one has a clue. After realizing that both tail lights were out I checked the fuse which was ok. I performed the fix of post#3 and got the lights to work. And Voila.. also the remote start system works again. Some how it is connected through the tail lights. Thanks guys. |
