|The GEM (Generic Electric Module) is the solution to most of these posts. For some reason these model years on the 250 and 350 have a windshield that isn't sealed very well. It allows water to seep behind the dash undetected to the fuse panel under the steering column. On the back of the fuse panel you can find this GEM. The GEM is (as it sounds) the control point for basically everything electrical on these trucks... from the windows, to the locks, to the speedometer, odometer, dash lights, cargo/dome lights, head lights, tail lights, windshield wipers, etc, etc, etc... The water causes corrosion on this module, and thus, ALL SORTS of electrical wierdness. I have heard of trucks starting by themselves in the middle of the night, radios running with no keys, door chimes and lights flashing, wipers not working, and it goes on and on and on... My specific problems began with the windows not working unless the truck was in 4WD, the wipers never worked, and when I got out, the cargo and dome light would flash along with the turn signal sound for several minutes before quitting. I learned about this GEM and took it out (there are several models of this part that are very specific to YOUR vehicle, not just the Ford model). It is neither too difficult nor terribly easy to take it off of the back of the fuse panel and it's the only way to find which version your vehicle has. There are 4 or 5 bolts that hold it in. I have read of some people taking there's off, cleaning it, or simply putting it back in, and everything working properly, so I would definitely suggest doing that before you try to find a new or used one in your version. My problems however, worsened. My speedometer stopped working, odometer stopped working, the flashing would not go off at all now when truck was turned off, and no dash warning lights worked. I took it to the dealer and told them what they needed to fix specifically(and, as this dealer did, THEY may not even be completely familiar with this module) and they replaced it. EVERYTHING works fine now. If you are confident enough with electronics, it is something you can do yourself, though I BELIEVE that each GEM has to be programmed with a couple of things (like tire size, and options) on your vehicle. The part itself, as I said, is not too tough to take out and put in and you can find used modules on the internet (especially E-Bay)for $80-$160, where as the dealer charges around $500 for a brand new one and the labor. Before getting a replacement, I DEFINITELY suggest getting your windshield resealed (concentrating on the bottom, driver-side corner), and sealing ANY holes in the firewall under the hood on that side. I hope everyone reads this because I have found this is an INCREDIBLY common problem(notice the market on E-Bay) that is OFTEN misdiagnosed until several other expensive fixes are tried, or simply remains a "minor" nuisance and a mystery. THIS WILL FIX THE ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS ON A 250, 350, EXPEDITION, AND EXPLORER, FOR CERTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|I have a f250 7.3 2003 truck that has issuses with the radio and the power windows they go out then comes back on sometimes stays off for days does anyone know what the problem is please help.|
|2003 F150 4 X 4. V-8. When truck has been running awhile it will just die. Happens faster when pulling trailer. Oil Pressure guage bottoms out and engine dies. Oil levels are all fine. After letting it sit for awhile it will restart (couple times I have jumped it) and then it is fine again for a while.|

|I have a F 250 super duty 2003. My dome lights stay on when i start the truck untill i start to drive for a few seconds. It also stays lite for 5 minites when i shut it off. also my cargo light stays on , The other night my electric locks were operating on its own for a few minutes. Help|
| I bought this unit new and with 55000 km on while we were in Arizona in the winter of 2008 we lost all electrical power to the heater and air controls after starting the trk. We never noticed any problem until we noticed the air wasn't working and saw no power to the controls. Upset we drove on to the grocery store to do some grocery shopping, after we came out I started the trk. (no problemo!) The trk. has done this for the third time this morning, July 1/2010 I stopped the trk. along side the hwy. shut it off for about 30 sec. (no problemo!) Dealers can't give me any idea of what it is or won't !!|
|My 2005 f250 6.0 ltr. diesel will at random goe to idle.For a moment there is no throttle response.The time varies from 4-5 secs to 1 min or longer.This occurs at the worst possible time like at a red light or going down the interstate.Most of the time it starts working again on its own.If you cut the ignition off during this ordeal it will crank fast and almost start but won't.If you pull relays and fuses sometimes it will start right up, but not always.Disconnecting batteries works sometimes.This problem has happened maybe 15-20 times over the last 2 months.Not everyday does the problem occur.It ran fine for two weeks the kaput again.Thoughts?|
|#1 I have a 03 f350 sd crew cab dually. I just replaced the transfer case motor and switch and the 4x4 still won't work? The old one i took off was bad, it would not work on my 99 sd and the new one will. I'v checked all the fuses maybe im missing one?|
#2 The cruse control will not work either and i'v changer the switch out and still the same thing.. Can any one help me with any of this???
|2002 F250 superduty. there is a buzzing noise coming from under my dash between the stearign wheel and the radio.. when I pull the relay thats making the noise, it stops buzzing and the turn signals also quit. I replaced that relay but when I put the new one in.. the problem came back.. any sugestions?|
|2000 Ford f250 V-10 Crew Cab: Dome lights and cargo light came on while driving the truck home. There was also a buzzing noise coming from the underside of the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. After I turned the truck off at my house, the dome and cargo lights illuminated again. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? The other power accessories such as windows, doorlocks etc, appear to be working normally and the door ajar light does not illuminate when the dome and cargo lights come on. They do not come on with full strength, only about 1/2 strength.|
|My 2002 F-250 Super Duty/Crew Cab is having many troubles at once. Door locks won't lock with interior buttons or the keychain/alarm remote, the door ajar light stays on, the radio stays on even after the key is removed from the ignition, the headlights won't come on when in the automatic position. It seems that the Reply #10 had the exact same problem, is it a common problem? |
| I have a f-250 7.3 and cant figure out why sometimes my power windows, radio, and interior light sometimes work. Is it a ground, Im seeing im not the only one with this problem. How do i fix this? Its very frustrating.|
|I recently purchased a 2002 F250 5.4L 4x4 the only problem is that I cannot get the daytime running lights to shut off unless I disconnect the battery. When I reconnect the battery the lights come back on. |
I tried removing all involved fuses and relays, still no success. I have found no extra connections points for a back feed. I must also state that this vehicle is equiped with a viper safety / remote system but I also disconnected this system.

I have a 2000 F250 Super Duty 7.3 Diesel I have been haveing some issues starting, I have replaced both bateries and put new starter on it today, you go go turn key I have all power to dash and lights, glow plugs kick in fuel pump primes yet acts like there is no juice to starter, I have check all conections with volt meter and am getting proper voltage to starter and relays on top of motor? anyone have any ideas??? is this a starter relay issue or the camshaft sensor?? which i had replaced due to recall....

|TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS A OWNERS MANUAL FOR A 1999-2001 FORD F250 SUPERDUTY LET ME KNOW.. I ALSO HAVE THE ENTIRE REPAIR MANUAL FOR OUR TYPE OF TRUCK.. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR AND TESTED EVERYTHING. FINALLY FOUND OUT THAT THE FUSE #29 5 AMP UNDER THE DASH WAS BLOWN. REPLACED IT AND THE CHARGING LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND THEN THE ALT STARTED WORKING. BUT EMAIL ME IF YALL WANT THE REPAIR AND OWNERS MANUAL FOR OUR TYPE OF TRUCKS.. |My 2007 F250 5.7 truck will only blow air (hot or cold) through the vents or floor when idling. As soon as you step on the gas pedal the air blows out the defrost no matter what position the switch is on, take your foot off the gas and it goes back to where the switch is on. All fuses are ok as far as I can tell. If anyone has had this problem please let me know, I'm stumped!!!|
|I HAVE A 2003 F250 WHEN ENGINE IS COLD ONLY, WHEN YOU START THE ENGINE IT CUTS OUT LIKE ITS MISSING. WHEN IT IS CUTTING OUT THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON FOR ABOUT 2 TO 3 SEC. |I have an 06 f250 the turn signal switch i realised was bad i had no blinker on the right side hold the switch in the middle before it clicks if full position and works fine. i pulled the turn signal switch off the dash and cleaned it with electrical connector cleaner and the connectors. i disconnected the battery and waited for it to dry and put it back together and now it wont start. i put the key in the ignition and get everything execpt for the starting position, all the lights come on the radio everything. i get nothing just a click from under the dash. i checked all the fuses and relays evan replaced the ignition switch and still nothing. i took out the starter relay and jumped pin 87 to pin 30 with the key in the run position and started right up... any i deas on that??? PLEASE HELP IF POSSIBLE . |
|92 f250 4x4 gas. started slowly this morning. drove it went to restart and it wouldn't. put charger on it to restart. came home cleaned battery conections and it restarted. put charger on to recharge battery. 3 hours later it would not start. I have lights, radio and fan for heater. my conections are tight and all I hear is a click from the cylinoid. some one help please.|
| I have a 2005 f-250 super duty 4x4 and we have issues, started off about 3 months ago when i was hauling my trailer and the engine light came on along with lack of power, to the dealership we go to find out a 2 coil packs were bad, all good till we hooked the trailer back up lack of power again since this happen i've replaced spark plugs, all coil packs, mass air flow sensor, throtle pos. valve, and sensor, new y-pipe with 2 new cat. convertors, new ox. sensors, fuel filter, fuel pump, still now 100% yet. diffently running better but when you get below that 3 thousand rpms you have no power. this truck has beento 3 dealers and still no power. the computor shows no codes, truck has 100000 miles on it, any body have this problem. |
|i have a 2000 ford f350 crew cab dualley with a triton v10 run good cold with a small miss once get gets warmed up and you step on the gas 4 power it goes limp if you turn the key off and on real quick it take off again until you puss the gas down 2far and it does it again only code it ever shows is lean and it only did that once any ideas anyone ?|
|1999 F250 Super Duty, Keys out the blower motor stays on. Also when switching the blower heater control it causes the flasher module for the flashers and turn signal to start making a ticking noise like its a relay trying to energize. When I pulled the flasher module it quit but the blower motor stayed on until I switched it off, but would not turn back on. With the flasher module in it drains the battery, with it out the battery stays charged. Any help would be appreciated!|
|My 2000 f250 7.3 has a problem to where the horn and the radio comes on without the key only when raining if it's not raining it drives fine. can anyone please tell me where to start?|
|i have a 2004 Ford F250 5.4L when i leave the truck to sit overnight the battery drains to like 5 volts, i have checked the entire electrical system, the alternator and battery are both fine does anyone knw what causes this issue? |
