V70 dashboard indicators not consistently working

I have an '03 V70 and I am experiencing the loss of a few indicator lights on the dashboard. As an example, the blinker lights on the dashboard only work about 20% of the time. The actual directionals on the extoerior of the car are still working all of the time. The high beam indicator rarely comes on but the high beams work as they should. The condition seems to be getting progressively worse.

The dealer offered to take the dashboard apart and replace a part but the cost was $1, 500. For a car with 135, 000 miles this seemed to rich.

Any ideas on what the probelm is and if it it a DYI job or not would be appreciated.
