My '89 740 suddenly quit and won't start. After checking fuel pumps and finding neither were receiving power I replaced the fuel system relay, but the car still wouldn't start. Further checking revealed that fuse 11 isn't getting power. My "Chilton" manual indicates fuse 11 is supplied from the ignition switch, but as yet I haven't gotten into the switch. Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

I may have the same problem as you are referring to, my car would shut off for no apparent reason and stay dead untill I turned the key switch off then on again. After a while when it would die on me I would quickly turn the key off then on again and it would pick right up and go on like nothing ever happened. I have not checked fuse 11 but i'm going to now! I'll

Do you think that maybe your catalytic converter is clogged?

my car would start then would'nt start again but now it cranks over but now it seems to be getting no gas or spark .i checked for spark from coil no spark (rex regina coil)replaced coil still now spark .checked rpm sensor no spark.put new one in still no spark.checked harness and fuses ok.checked timing belt ok.went took out coil looked at contacts not the plugin's but the one's that have two posts on the coil , the two post on the coil plug's into the other part where the post clips into the contacts i cleaned the posts and the contacts, pluged the coil in and the car started no problem .i've been scratching my head for months talking to volvo mechanics reading manuals everything. and it was just two contacts i cleaned with a knife and that was it .it took 5 minutes to do .i hope it's that simple for you .good luck .i've been driving for a week now starts every time no problems at all.
