are you sure all the fuses to do with it are okay? it might bee somewhere in the wiring itself. you might have to search for a broken or cut wire.

I also have a 240 dl sedan and the brake lights also just started to not work I check the fuse and it seems o.k. dont know what it could be

On the sedan the tail lights have a multi-wire 'female' plug that plugs into the tail light, the 'male' plug on the tail lights has a copper covered "prong" that feeds a plastic coated type circuit board to eache light socket. The copper on the prongs can get worn out, losing contact with the plug, I made some small copper covers to wrap over the tail light and brake light prong areas that restored conductivity.

1992 240 sedan ~ my left break light went out and it turns out that my 240 has a light socket fixture with flexible contacts and they were not making contact. so i just bent them a little and problem solved.

Does anyone have pictures of the male and female prongs/ plugs? I don't seem to have these parts, and my 240 sedan's tail lights don't work correctly.

1989 240 DL - I put a penny between the circuit board and the bulb prong and it worked for me. Hope I can help fix your problem for only one cent.

No brake lites. push on brake, fuse goes w/lites unplugged. Unplug wire loom to rear fuse ok. Cut wires at loom connector, fuse ok. put test lite to cut wire, no lite. Put wires back together and fuse goes. Is there a relay, I've swapped out the red and yellow ones. Any suggestions.

Test / Replace brake light switch first (small button depressed by the brake lever when brake is NOT pushed - has only two wires). Test by connectung wires to one another and see if brake lights work. If they work, replace the switch. If they still don't work, replace the bulb failure warning sensor. It is a red cylinder with many (12?) wires going in and out in a round pattern on the open side - it isbelow and to the left of the steering column. You have to remove the panel below the steering column. Pop the plugs with a screwdriver to expose the screws beneath.

Reply 8 from Sean is probably best place to start. Try the bulb failure warning sensor first because it is easy to get to, above the fuse panel. The brake light switch is a nightmare to get out, you need just the right compact wrench and some yoga lessons. There are 2 switches working off the brake pedal, The long round black plastic (easy to get to) one is your cruise control switch. Attached through the steering column plate above and to the right of CC switch is the full metal break light switch. GOod luck!

I have a 1990 Volvo 240 Wagon with a perplexing warning light issue. Last night the car started OK then a minute later the alternator, brake failure, and parking brake warning lights came on together. The car runs fine and the headlights are strong. The brake reservoir is full and the brakes work just fine. The parking brake is off. The other warning lights turn on when the key is turned on and go off when the engine starts.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
