Volvo-240 - 95 850- i need some help with my sound system!!
Forrest Knighton (24.54.245.126) - Wed Jun 21 21:35:38 2006
Hello, i have a 1995 850 turbo that was given to me recently. I had to change out the battery and once i did, i discovered i need a special code to unlock the anti-theft system to get my disc changer working. The manual says i should have a code card that the dealer gives you when you buy your vehicle. as i mentioned, the car was given to me by my cousin who bought it several years ago second hand. we have no such card so i was wondering if anyone else has encountered the same problem or is there some sort of master code for my particular model. or a reset button? i tried some basic 4 digit codes and after teh third or so try, it locked up on me. like most people, i like music and i fried my last radio/cd player in my old truck so i was really loking forward to having music in my ride again. If anyone can help i would much appreciate it. LA traffic everyday with no tunes is a real drag. please shoot me an email at forrest@mobilestorm.com with any info. Thank you.

You need to call a VOLVO dealership, they'll ask you for the VIN # and look up your code for free. Don't pay anyone money to do this, it shouldn't cost anything. If it's the original radio that came with the car the code should work.

Oh, forgot to mention if your radio is locked out you need to put the key in the acc position for two hours then the radio will show the word "code" again, then proceed with the 4 digit # the dealership provides you.

The service department will not give you the code over the phone. The code is an anti-theft feature. Volvo service will only reset the code if you can prove the vehicle is yours and you must go to the dealer and show proof of ownership. I have called 4 dealerships and they have all told me the same thing.

I went to the dealership today and at first they tried to charge me $30 for the code, but I told them it should be free. they then asked for proof of ownership and gave me the code.I too just bought this car and it had the radio locked. I entered the code and it did not work... I left the key on for 2 hours and it asked for the code again so I entered the code they gave me and the display read OFF. So I'm stuck looking this stuff up here. Let me know anybody out there whats next? thx

You need to disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and then reconnect it. Once the battery is reconnected then turn the key int he start position for 4 hours. After 4 hrs you can enter the code and your radio will work. I have the original book from my car and this is how they tell you to unlock it.

I found an easier way to reset the radio, I left mine on forever and it never reset. Turn the car on, then turn the radio on. Then pull the radio fuse under the hood, put the fuse back and it should say code then enter your code and it should come back on. WORKED FOR ME Thanks

Is the radio code the 4 numbers on top of the radio and how do you enter the code - it is 9850 - how do I enter 9 if that's it?

I tried to jumpstart a bad battery in my Volvo 850, and unfortunately had the polarity wrong. So I guess a blew a fuse or something, so the control lamps do not light up when turning the key on, and even if I have now fully loaded batteries that turn around thje starter motor, nothing happens.Does anyone knbow what I have to change or what to do ?

I'm so glad I found this - was getting very frustrated seeing "OFF" on the radio. To Sam: If the dealer can't get you the right code, not sure who could....

I got information about how to get the radio from OFF to CODE. However, I can't figure out exactly HOW to enter the code? One site syas to push the radio preset button 1 for 1, 2 or 2. I have no radio present buttons (who does these days?)

94 Volvo 850 -- Disconnected battery cables and the radio display came up as CODE. The 4 digit number on top of the radio started with a 9, so I tried random codes and now it says OFF. Which one is the code number and if it begins with 9, how to enter as I only have 1 - 6? And how do you get it back to code?

Help!!! Who know how to unlock the Vovol 850 radio key? I've got a 5 -digit radio key number but it doesn't work. According to the manual, the key should be 4-digit. Is anyone know how can I do to unlock it? Thanks.
