hi! i traded for a 87 vanagon a few years ago. there were no keys included as the only available copy was broken off in the starting column. given the trade value, i opted to hardwire the starter to a on/off plunger-switch and all was well and good.the van is now showing some signs of distress when i try to start it, particularly after the engine has heated up, IE start/stop driving, like doing errands. the starter is having a harder time cranking the engine and is not 100% reliable. just the battery?
i just checked the battery and it's just between fair/good on my battery tester, but i wonder if i'm putting the starter under adverse conditions by hot-wiring. it's not the best way to do it, i know.
any info on the starter/batter or electronic principles is greatly appreciated!
