Hi:

The starter has died on my daughter's '83 Rabbit and I'd like to remove it and get it rebuilt. The two bolts I can see are 13mm heads. Those were easy to remove. The Haynes says the one I CAN'T see MAY be a "large Allen bolt" and states no size for "large". The 13mm socket isn't grabbing anything. It's about -10 celsius here today and I'm working on an ice-covered driveway so any time saved would be very much appreciated. Any advice on what to try?

can you touch the bolt? i would get some putty or even chewed gum and reach in and press it on the bolt. it will leave an imprint. you can get the size and shape of the bolt that way.
