Toyota-RAV4 - Fog lights installation

I am installing a set of fog lights in my 08 Toyota Rav4. These lights were not originally installed from factory. I purchased light kit and steering column combo switch. Upon installation I realized that I needed an additional relay in the fuse box which is located behind the hood release handle. This is where my problem begins; at first I borrowed a fan relay and tried, the lights work perfectly. I then went the retail store to purchase a relay, I was given a 24v relay by mistake, not realizing I plugged it in ... no fog lights, I then realized it was a 24v relay, they exchanged it for a 12v relay and still no fog lights. Upon doing some electrical checks I discovered that the ground to switch the relay is now missing and I cant seem to figure out what went wrong. Can someone please help to shed some light on my situatuion. Many thanks in advance. PS All fuses were checked and are good.
