my engine

i have a 1995 99 oldsmobile. a bout 3 weeks ago the
water pump was changed because it was leaking. 3
days after it was cnahged coolant leak into the
engine and now the mechanis is telling me that he
needs to rebuild half and engine, is there any
chance that the water pump was put in wrong?
i need some advice.

the mechanic could have screwed something up. I would take it to another mechanic and see what they think.
