Nissan-Xterra - Nissan Xterra Gauges Dump

My girlfriend has a 2000 Xterra that the gauges dump and she losses power. We have heard that it's a short in the gauge cluster, bad leads, shorts in the wiring, bad ecm / computer board. Has anyone heard of these doing this? Any solutions? Nissan tried to diagnose the problem - no luck. Thanks in advance!

Hi, My 2000 Xterra is going through the same thing. I have replaced the distributor and the purge valve. Now they want me to replace the ECM. I still don't know if that will work. Have you had any luck since you last posted? Jessica

Same exact problem. See description above link. I talked with a Nissan service dept. guy and he indicated that the gauge problem sounded like a fault with the unified meter assembly. I haven't taken it further but any feedback is good. I do not see how the unified meter assembly would effect the acceleration of the car.
