Engine runs, then sputters and dies after 1/2 hr

My 93 Nissan SE runs fine, then surges and dies after abot 1/2 hr of driving. Wont start again for about 2 hrs--then runs very poor.

Any ideas what is causing this?

has 180K miles--never had a problem like this

something is getting hot and not working properly,could be a bad ecm or distributer if it has one,or bad crank sensor. check fuel system also could be alot of things but maybe nothing mayjor. also check the timing on it could have a bad chain with the miles on it. dont know if you checked all this already but seems like engine lite would be on if its not burned out. does it lite up when u turn the key on?

i have a 1986 nissan pickup with a z24 engine that has less than a 1000 miles on new engine. it will start up but when it runs, its sounds like it is not firing on all cylinders like a wire is missing, but i have replaced wires,plugs, cap, rotor, coils, i also checked and replaced all vacum lines, new fuel filter, can anyone help me figure this out????????

I have a 97' Nissan XE 4cyl 4x4 pick-up truck and it has 87k miles on it. The problem is i replaced the alternater and the battery and my battery light is still on and wipers are very slow and the headlights are dimm. I had the new alt/battery checked and they where fine. And the alternater belt felt tight. I dont know what else it could be besides wireing issues, or maybe a fuse gone bad somewhere. Anyone know? Thanks, Josh

check the wiring harness coming from the firewall to the injectors, the injectors are spliced into one wire in this wire harness using a crimp connector, this connector will get moisture in it if you have ever sprayed the engine off and will get corroided, replace this connector and place heat shrink around the splice it should fix the problem.

I have a 1989 Nissan Nomad van Z24 (8plugs)and the motor is making terrible rattly sounds..louder than pinging, but not as deep as Big Ends??? I am thinking rings collapsed!!Or perhaps bearings that are just not so loud?

The thing is performing badly (especiaally under load) and is overheating as well. We have stopped driving it at present.

It was relatively fine before this. (but has never idled properly, and often goes whwhuu when you turn the key - new battery and two rebuilt alternators in last 6mths)

Do I simply put a match to it?

Or does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be.

I have always loved Nissans,especially C20 vans, but this thing has been a nightmare since we got it!

any comments appreciated.

I am having the same problem witha 86 nissan 3.0 v6 last time it was the ecm computer has drivers inside for fuel injection v6 had a dual TBI one side of ecm was not working replaced ecm vehicle worked fine now i am having trouble again get repair manual and check codes that ecm flashes mine is saying ecm is good but my crank angle sensor in the distributor or my o2 sensor has problems that is the only codes my ecm is flashing at this time drove it the other day it backfired and died left me sitting each piece i mentioned is expensive $130.00 to $140.00 ea cant afford to have dealer fix it then have to pay arm and leg for those parts

TO ALL YOU GUYS WITH THE 2.4L 4 CYL ENGINES MOST OF THOSE ARE MADE IN MEXICO POOR QUALITY IF YOU SEE A BIG M ON THE BLOCK ITS A MEXICAN MOTOR ALSO THE 4 CYL ENGINES 2.4L ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TIMING CHAIN ADJUSTERS OR TENSIONERS BREAKING AND THE CHAIN WOULD RUIN YOUR TIMING COVERS AND YOUR OIL PRESSURE WOULD DROP TO HARDLY NOTHING WOULD RUN LIKE A PIECE OF CRAP AND ROCKER ARMS WOULD RATTLE DUE TO LOW OIL PRESSURE

1991 nisaan pickup 2.4L starts up then bogs out seems like to much air coming in or bad gas if i was to replace the intake manifold gasket would that help

I HAVE A 86 NISSAN PICKUP, 2.4L . THIS I A 4 CYLINDRERS AND 8 SPARK PLUGS????? IT RUNS RUFF AND DOES DIES A LOT. HAS HAD A NEW OVERHAUL 20K AGO. I TOOK OFF ONE OF THE WIRES FROM THE DISTRIBUTER TO THE COIL, DID NOT RUN GOOD OS I TOOK THE OTHER WIRE FROM THE DISTRIBUTER TO THE OTHER COIL SEEMS TO RUN OK. DO I NEED BOTH COILS FIRING ON THE ALL THE TIME? IS OK TO RUN THE MOTOR ON 4 OF THE 8 SPARK PLUGS. HELP ANYBODY IF YOU CAN. THANKS DICK

4 the person whos having problems with his nissan z24 ignition coils its ok 2 run one ciol if u have amodified distributor but if the truck is stock with no mods then u would need both coils an all eight spark plugs 2 be running properly probably one of the 2 coils are dead check it out.

My problem, I have a 1997 Nissan truck, fuel injected 2.4 cyl engine. I purchased it a year ago with 89XXX miles on it. It came with a current CarFax. the CarFax did not indicate any prior problems or repairs. The engine will not idle. It run great once you get past go, but it doe's seem like it lacks power. The smell from the exhaust stinks like it may be an emission problem. For the past 10 months I have had about $2000.00 in repair work, most by a Nissan dealer. They could not tell me what the problem is nor can 2 other quality local mechanics. I'm at a loss. HELP!

check that the mass airflow meter doesn't have debris also check the air intake temp sensor for broken wires

trying to find out this z24 motor.have checked all basics.

it had one bad coil.i get a 44 code at ecm.it runs good cold

as it gets hot it starts to buck.give gas while its bucking

and it runs better.idles good but has no power.i hooked up a timing light and free reved engine between 2000 and 3000 rpm

light doesnt seem to loose ignition.it has good fuel pressure

but i havnt checked vol.some times it runs fine then it starts to buck have any clues

i bought a 91 nissan 240sx fast back for dirt cheap. car crank but wont start. i got the head and block rebuilt. hopeing it would start. nope i wasnt getting any spark had to buy a new coil, ignition module, replace those parts now i was getting spark it started up runs a little then dies on me. now im not getiing spark or any power from my coil. it starts wen it wants to. all my fuse are good my ecu only reads code 55 im stuck i dont know what to check. i need some help!!!! what do i need to check?

i have a nissan nomad 1991 van (z24-c22-i eng) overall its a good van but

uses too much fuel(full tank gets about 200kms)

and seems to lack power its an automatic i have not checked

the timing yet my petrol gauge is off a little

just not game to keep driving until i run out of petrol.

I have a 1986 Nissan Hardbody. I can't seem to get power to the fuel pump relay or the injectors. All fuses and relays check out okay.

The fuel pump runs when I place a jumper wire across the pump relay switch points.

Also if I spray a little carburator cleaner into the throttle body the engine tries to start.

Any ideas on what I should check next?

1997 nissan hardbody pickup xe 4cylinder it has had alot of work done to it and still runs bad it stalls smells nasty it also spits out black smoke if anybdy has any ideas plaese lead to to the problem i have replaced the injecters some sensers the ecu im frustrated

i have an 1988 nissan pickup z-24. its a 4 cyl with 8 plugs and wires. The truck doesnt want 2 start. It seems like its getting gas. when i pour gas into the carb it starts then shuts down right away. i've learned that if i hold my hand over the carb the engine will stay on and rev really high. but as soon as i remove my hand the truck dies right away. please someone point me in the right direction. Its becoming very fustrating and would appreciate any help. Thank you very much in advance.

I have a 93' nissan xe 4 cylinder pickup truck. I washed engine off lightly. Cranked afterwards and drove for hour or so afterwards with no problems. Next day noticed problems. You can rev up to 1500 to 2000 rpms and hold between that and it pulsates up and down.Above or below is alright. Except when driving and let off excelerator and give gas again, it hesitates a little and jerks before excelerating. Took it to Nissan dealer they longer have a way to check for sensors or what ever to see what is happening on vehicles older than 96' models. Told me it could very well be the coil and resistor breaking down. Replaced both with no change. HELP.

Don't understand??!!! I have an 89 nissan hardbody se v6 , that in all its slpendor , has run phenominally with 22, 000 mi. On it..... no knocking pinging or loss of power.... maintained regularly.... this last tune up, I did plugs wires rotor and cap, oil and just the basics...... now truck idles high, engine lights on and falls on its face @2500-3000 rpms...I am lost, I've checked and rechecked.... no vacum issues.... everything looks good......runs like and sounds like a stuck valve or dead cylinder.... haven't checked the codes yet for the engine light...... dunno where to plug in diagnostic...... can anyone point me in the right direction here..... I love this truck its apart of our family.....
