1998 Nissan frontier electric speedometer does not work. It quit suddenly while on the interstate. There is no power going to the speed sensor from the back of the instrument cluster. The printed cirduit board is good. All other guages work fine. The sensor ohm readings are 270 ohms not running and 230 ohms with it idling in 2nd gear with the wheels turning. Help please.

You can fix the cluster yourself if you know how to use a solder sucker and soldering iron. The parts and shipping total about fifteen dollars. You have to remove the clack bezel that surrounds your AC controls and runs all the way around the top of the dash.. two screw under the bezel just below the AC controls and one (I think) on the other side of the dash. There are two screws in the inner bezel that face upward toward the top of the dash. You have to take out the three screws that hold the plastic housing the encases the turn signal, head lamp switch, steering column and slide the rubber ring off the ignition switch. Once you get the inner bezel off and the top plastic cover off the steering column you will see the two top screws that hold the cluster in place. You may need to push the manipulate the top of the column cover to expose the two bottom screws for the cluster. Once all are out the cluster will pull forward. You will need to unplug the Molex style connectors by squeezing down on the small latch that is top center. I had one small connector on mine that does not show up on some drawings I've seen. Cut the tie wraps and your home fee.

The problem "Temp and fuel gauges pegged past hot and full. Tach not reading above 2000, Speedo not reading above 20 MPH, odometer reading 999999" is a typical failure for the clusters in 1998, 99 Frontiers and Pathfinders. We have a repair solution for these. Visit the website for more info.

I changed fron the standard 14 inch rims with a standard 194 x 14 tires to 15 inch 215 tires, the speedometer now reads about 15 miles per hour faster. Such as, I amd going 55 mph on the speedometer and I was pulled over by the police saying I wasa traveling 69 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, which I was doing (55mph)on the speedometer. I went to the Nissan place aasked them if they have different sensors or gears they said no for the manual transmission but have three different types for the automatic. HELP-- I cannot afford another ticket. I purchased this truck wrecked and fixed it myself. The speedometer did not work at that time. I found the wires broken on the sensor and fixed it. It worked but not sure if the sensor could be bad as well????

97 2wd pickup....Speedometer occasionally stops...a rap on the dash board starts it again. I found no loose plug-ins. Is total failure probable? It is accurate to 2 mph... I do not think it is a sensor problem. Thanks for any ideas!
