1987 speedometer cable help!!!

i have a 1987 nissan d21 pickup and last month the speedometer stopped working i checked the pannel and followed the cable down to the tranny, took it out and spun it. it spinns the connector that goes into the insrament pannel, but when it is connected to the tranny it wont, any ideas or help.

I have a 1986 nissan 720 pickup and the whole gauge cluster doesnt work but it seems that i need to replace all fuses and the speed cable in the tranny i suggest the you do the same gary!! and any help on my gauge cluster problem would be helpfull
