Nissan-Pathfinder - Fuel level sensor input A
showkat (128.205.101.195) - Sun Aug 24 13:15:39 2008
hello, i have a 2005 nissan pathfinder and the check engine light came on. i took it to auto zone and had them check the car with their computer. the guy tells me its "fuel level sensor A Input High" or something like that. Can you tell me what really is the problem here because my fuel gauge works just fine. Thanks

Same thing here, and it seems like this is a common problems with '05 Pathfinders.

I have a 2005 XTerra with the same problem. Probably the same sensor as used for the Pathfinder. The dealer wants $400 to fix it.

It is a very, very common problem with the Nissans. Fuel sensor is in the gas tank. Thus you have about $320 in labor to have the fuel tank remove to get to the $150 fuel level sensor.Sorry

I just received word on my 2005 frontier that the fuel leveling sensor has gone bad. Nissan want's $150 for the part and another $420 for the labor. All that just so I can have my check engine light turned off and my dte (miles left to drive based on fuel load) wok properly. No thanks. Time for to to man up and install this part myself.

I own a 2005 Frontier with same problem. My fuel level gauge doesn't work when I fill up with gas and my "service engine soon" light comes on but after I drive for 50 to 75 miles everything works fine. I had a local emisions testing center run a free test to see what the problem was and it is the "fuel level input high" code that "showkat" mentioned. I can't pass the emisions test until I fix the problem. The local dealerships are quoting anywhere from $500 to $575 to repair the issue. I hate to soud like a conspiracy theory type of person but I find it interesting that this problem is a common issue for Nissan (was made apparent by the google searches I have done) and the EPA demands that it be repaired before you can pass the emissions test. This problem has absolutely nothing to do with emissions! Is it possible that car manufacturers have figured out a way to increase revenue by using faulty products that last long enough for the warranty period??? This is the second issue I have had that has left a bad tast in my mouth. The first was my radiator somehow leaking coolant fluid into my transmission. That problem has permanately damaged my transmission but convieniently enough, it also happened after the warranty period. I should have bought a Toyota. My wife has a 4runner and neglects to take care of it the way I do and she drive more miles but yet the biggest problem we have had is having to replace bulbs for headlights!! I appologize for any misspelled words or gramatical errors.

I am having the same problem with our 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and the dealer wants $400.00 to fix the problem even though there is a bulletin on the system. I just got off the phone with Nissan consumer affairs. They indicated the more people that call and report this problem the more likely it will turn into a recall. I suggest everyone call and keep your recipes as you may get your money back from Nissan if it turns into a recall.

Exactly the same happened to my Frontier, but I am still waiting to make the decision of getting fixed or not, so far what I have read tells me that it will be expensive. I own 2005 Nissan Frontier with just 45000 miles on it and a toyota 2004 with 90000. I just had to replace bulbs on my toyota and do regular maintenance. I love my frontier but I have to accept that Nissan is crap. I was very impressed a few days ago when someone punctured my bumper and I called dealership for a quote and realize that they do not even have a collision center. I regret my choice when I bought Nissan. The next time I will not hesitate and I Will buy a Toyota for Sure.

same thing with my 05 xterra. Call the numer have it turn into a recall. They know what there doing to make more money. Rich get richer and the poor fight to make ends meet. I was quoted 320 just for labor, called a nondealer and was quoted 225 for labor or man up a do it myself.

I have the same thing on my 05 Pathfinder. Will not pass inspection. Dealer says the only way to see if extended warranty will cover it is to do a $100 service check on their machine. Any idea where I can buy this part? I have a friend who is willing to do it for free.

Same thing just happened to me, nissan probably will not recall because it is not a dangerous malfunction, but they sometimes do a kind of silent recall where if it goes bad and you go in to get fixed they do not charge. But they will not send out a notice to all owners. Let just hope they do something like this.
Reply #17 David (75.182.111.75) - Sun May 10 21:29:46 2009
Don't have to go back to 2005 to still find this problem. I have a 2007 Pathfinder. The same thing happened (almost a verbatim description from Mr. Slicious). The difference is this. Nissan wants to charge me $100 to pull my codes then charge me to fix a problem of which they are obviously aware. This things burn me. This is the last Nissan I buy. I am also trading in my Altima. I drove my Camry 200, 000 miles and never had an issue. At 48, 200 miles I reported the problem to my Nissan dealer and this is the response. Forums like this should keep the dealerships and automakers in check.

Same thing has happened to my on my 2005 Xterra. Took it to Auto Zone and got a faulty fuel level sensor. My check engine light goes on and off but now when I fill up my gas tank stays at 1/2 a tank and slowly goes to full. But it never drops the gauge below 1/2 tank. I am very cautious and track my miles so as not to run out of fuel but this is a safety issue where your vehicle can leave you stranded out of fuel and you didn't even know it was low. Nissan NEEDS to fix this for free. I would not be as perturbed if it was a cheap fix but dropping a fuel tank to fix a sensor is ridiculously expensive. If anyone was able to get this repaired for free or reimbursed please email me and tell me how you did it. I will keep searching for silent recalls but I have not seen anything yet.

Same problem with my 2006 Frontier Nismo truck. The fuel level sensor went bad 3 days after my warranty expired and it cost me almost $400 to fix at local dealer (just two weeks after I spent $500 on my 30, 000 mile tune up). Nissan has not responded to my phone calls or the two letters I submitted to their consumer affairs department. Too bad, because I was really liking my truck. They obviously have a problem here, and I think we should all demand a recall!

It is obviously a conspiracy, which someone has already stated in an earlier commment. I have a 2006 Pathfinder and I thought it was kind of ironic that I was about to go on a long trip and I dropped my vehicle off with Nissan to have two new tires put on; and after 3 hours waiting for them to replace the tires, they give me a list of things that they said needed to be taken care of, totaling $1500.00, and my vehicle was under 60, 0000 miles. After hitting the road during my trip, and after my second fill up I was in the feeder lane ready to get back on the Interstate and I went to look at my gas gage as I always do after I fill up and realized that the gas hand hand gone all the way back to E, plus the light came on saying "service engine soon". I almost paniced knowing that I had only gone 200 miles out of a 800 mile trip; my brother who was with me did panic literaly. Fortunate enough made the trip safe and return. I like everyone else decided after Nissan stated there was a $134.00, part plus a $20.00 part plus $300.00 labor, I have decided to drop the tank and fix it myself. It is a shame.

I have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder that I bought after having an Xterra (which I had no problems with). The check engine light came on @ approx. 45, 000 miles with the codes showing the same problem as everyone else on this forum. I was told it was not a warranty part and would cost me $500+ to fix. I've been keeping track of my miles, but have run out of gas once. I agree with everyone else--it should be a recall.

I have a 2005 Altima. The service engine light came on at 67, 000 miles. I had a 60, 000 mile check, so why didn't the dealer realize that the fuel sensor was going bad and fix it when they charged me close to a $1, 000.

I have a 2006 X-Terra-have done meticulous maintenance and the check engine light came on as well. I paid the dealership 100 to tell me that it was the fuel sensor, it will cost 400+ to fix. I AM LEASING THE THING- It happened at 40K miles, right out of warranty. I agree-we need a number to complain to -there should be a recall on this. The dealership told me to "just drive it that way and turn it in" I do not hink I should have to deal with this for another 8 months..

I have a 2007 Frontier with 44000 miles, the service engine soon light is on but the fuel gauge is working so far. The problem I have is fueling the truck up, if I try to put in fuel at a normal rate it keeps pushing out of the filler neck all over the truck and ground. I have to put it in so slow that other motorists are fuming mad, but its the only way to fill it up without losing gallons of fuel. Anyone else have this problem??

My son has a 2005 Frontier and the Fuel Level Sensor is bad. The dealer wants $600.00 to repair it so it can pass the test in our state to get his tags. Why does Nissan let this happen with so many complaints. I will never buy or suggest that anyone who I know purchases a Nissan of any sort. I have a Toyota with 134, 000 miles and would not trade it for a new Nissan. Thank You.

I have the same fuel level sensor problem with my 07 Nissan Frontier with only 38, 000 miles. The dealer wouldn't cover it (said it was over the 36, 000 warranty) and charged me $450.00 to fix it! Looks like this is a very common problem that has been happening for years! Nissan really needs to do the right thing and recall them! Looks like I will be buying Toyota from now on.

As much as I appreciated being able to read everyone's post, I am also very frustrated to learn that my 2006 Nissan Xterra is the part of such a bigger issue! I agree, Nissan should recall this sensor. I am 33 weeks pregnant, last thing I need to do is run out of gas because my car shows empty around 1/4 tank w/ a baby in the car or worse have to spend $100's of buck for someone to fix a problem that should not exist in such a new car. I am the only owner and take great car of my Nissan it was my 4th purchase of their cars, maybe I should of stuck with the used version vs. forking over about 28k for something that keeps costing me $$$, grrr.... I am curious if I have someone other then a "fancy" garage fix it if the sensor lights will go off or if it will take a computer to reset those lights???

I bought the first Pathfinder in Wollongong & had the apparently common problem with fuel gauge.I didn't get of their backs at Warrawong Nissan & after round 2 years out came a modification which has rectified the problem. Not sure what the modification was but they had previously change the sender in the tank to no avail. I had given up but no when the modification came out all was fine.

2007 X-Terra-- same problem as everyone else--Ses Light comes on & Fuel sensor reads empty tank after fill up. The gauge will come back up to correct reading after about 50 miles. (If you disconnect the negative battery terminal ( one small Nut) the code will clear and the SES light ( service enging soon) will go off.) So far it only happens if I fill the tank. So I usually get less thna that with no problem. Car is now 450 miles past the 36000 mile lease warranty-- I am not paying to fix this problem on a vehicle I do not own.

Same problem like everyone else--service engine comes on and once the fuel gauge gets down to 1/4 tank the needle goes to E. I have to pass inspection before the end of June so I will clear the message and take it in. Hopefully I can get pass the emmission test and then turn the vehicle in to Nissan in Feb. Last Nissan I will ever own. I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma Pickup with 207k miles and still runs like a champ. I should have bought a Toyota but I was trying to save a few dollars. Like the old saying goes--You get what you pay for.

My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder has the same problem. Just checked it with an Auto Diagnostic Tool - P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit High Input. What will happen if I don't have this fixed right away? Is it dangerous or just annoying having a on/off working gas gauge? We also have a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder with over 150, 000 miles. I've always liked them, but after reading this website, I don't think our next car will be a Pathfinder.

Looks like this isn't an isolated incident. My 2006 Frontier has the sam code reading meaning fuel tank sensor high input. The service engine soon light is on but the fuel guage still works fine and the truck works fine. My local dealer wants about $400.00 dollars to fix the problem and turn the SES light off. Guess I'm going to have to put up with it because I'm not paying $400.00 to fix something that still works. Incidentally, my truck is still within the warranty period time wise but over on the mileage. What would mileage have to do with a static object like a fuel sensor?

The failure of this sensor first occurred to me last Fall, but the money to fix is steep. I've suffered with faulty fuel readings for all these months; now MUST fix to pass inspection. This is a horribly designed and manufactured component, to cost this much to replace so early in car life. If Nissan were going to be proactive on this, they'd have done it by now. They need the repair business; since they're not selling any cars.

Experiencing same problem with 05 Xterra (apprx 78000 miles). SES-Service Engine Soon light started coming in and out and DTE-Distance to Empty started to read -- about a week ago. Then gas gage started reading half full after a fill up, and drifts up to full after a few hours. DTE keeps fluctuating between -- and numbers. Before reading this forum, thought it may be something as simple as the seal on the gas cap; replaced the cap and problem still existed... Then started internet searches and came across this forum...hmmm...seems that I'm not alone on this issue...definitely sounds like this is a common enough problem that Nissan should do a recall fix. Question: Are the DTE and gas gage indicating correct when they are not reading -- or not at the half full mark, respectively?

Nissan issued a technical service bulletin for this problem in 2007. The bulletin number is NTB07-069a.A decent auto parts store (like AutoZone) should be able to scan for error codes - for free. Error codes are 461, 462, or 463. Way too many people are having this problem for Nissan not to step up and fix it free-of-charge. I saw a response on another board from a guy claiming to be a Nissan mechanic who said the part came from a third-party and therefore wasn't Nissan's fault. I can't believe Nissan would feel this way. Toyota sure wouldn't. I guess that's why (Toyota) has become the world's largest automaker.

Just go to autozone before you have the test done. They can scan the code, and though they can't clear them, they can hand you the machine and show you which button to push to clear the code. They have liability insurance that won't let them do it themselves.

I am really glad I found this forum. My 05 Xterra fuel sensor is going bad as well. My gas gauge does not respond when I fill up with gas until two or three days afterwards. Anyway I call Nissan and to fix the sensor w/ labor $552 + tax. They also to me that is a 3yr/ 36K warranty item. Well I was not told this when I purchased the vehicle. Well I agree this is a known problem and there should be a recall on this item. Nissan really need to step up and take care of the issue.

Has anyone had any luck getting Nissan to handle this? 05 Xterra with the same fuel sensor problem. 55K miles and the gage and dte readout are inaccurate and don't match eachother. Dealer wants $495 to repair. I am going to show them this thread in hopes that they will repair under the 60K warranty, or in anticipation of a recall being generated. Good luck to all others in this same boat. Consumer Reports rated the Xterra very high. I have a second problem, the main shaft yoke seal is dislodged and leaking. I think that the reliability ratings are going to take a dive.

I took a dive under my 2005 Pathfinder "The Little Mule" and yes the tank is plastic and secured to the frame with 2 straps. I am going to replace the sensor like Tom. My experience with this type of repair tells me1. the sensor is part of the fuel pump. 2. drop the tank with as little fuel as possible. 3. the filler hose and fuel lines are not going to be real long and make this repair super easy. 4. hose clamps may be weird. ask the dealer for popular associated parts for this repair. Like Tom, I will update when I do this. Secondy, no need to jam Nissan Corp. just yet as charging money to pull codes may be at the dealer's descretion. some do, some dont. same with Toyota.

Well this problem seems to be very popular. I have an 02 Pathfinder that now has 111K miles. My light came on last year and Goodyear charged me $450 to fix which included a $120 diagnostic of the code. They said it was a "defective" sensor but didn't say what the code indicated. Well it's happened again, one year later. I seem to remember being at about 1/4 tank and heading down a gravel road on an incline when I noticed it. Now that I've read all these responses, I figure I am now the owner of a Nissan $450 light bulb. I will not rush on this one, I'll find someplace cheap like an Autozone to have the code pulled just in case but have no intention of getting duped again with this fix for a faulty sensor.

I just recently got this same issue after filling up. I had the problem with the gages not moving. Actually, this is the second time that the gauges did not move, but te first time that the service engine light came on. i am going to try the battery disconnet and fill up again. i am also going to take this forum to the nissan dealership, if that doesnt work, and see if they will atleast discount it or something.

An another one... to the very long list. I have a 05 Pathfinder with just over 60, 000 miles. The fill up I did last week my fuel gauge went to full then dropped to 3/4 full as I continued driving to work. This freaked me out I though I had a leak. I check underneath and there was nothing. On the drive home the gauge moved to full and the dte was where is was supposed to be, so I though it was a fluke.... I just had the oil changed this past Saturday... I filled up yesterday evening the fuel gauge only went to 3/4 of a tank got a mile down the road the "Service engine soon" light came on.... got to a stop light the fuel gauge dropped to empty with the light on and "dte" had dashes. Called the dealer this morning they said they would have to run the diagnostic to see what the problem is and to see if it is covered under my warranty. From what I was reading on here it doesn't look like this will be covered. This is ridiculous that this is happening to so many people.... $500 - $600 repair??? That's not going to happen now... Wish me luck!!

Successful!!! Following up on my installation of the fuel level sensor: I bought the sensor and an o-ring for about $130.00. Took the two straps off the tank and dropped it about 10 inches. Removed the fuel pump lock ring and pulled out the fuel pump with the sensor and level assembly attached. Replaced with the new sensor and level assembly and shoved the fuel pump back into the tank. New o-ring and tightened the lock ring and reconnected the main wiring harness. Put the straps back on. Did not need to disconnect any hoses. The gauge and dte works like new. Still need to clear the SOS code.

05 Pathfinder, same problem with the fuel sensor. I bought a code reader on Ebay for $35 to check and clear the " service engine light" It last anywhere from few days to a few weeks so far. Good to use if you have an inspection coming up. I'll just keep checking with Nissan for a recall and basically ignore the light.

I called Nissan and they said that they will only issue a recall if enough people call them and complain about it. So, if you haven't called then you NEED to do so. If you've already paid to have this problem fixed, you should be able to get your money back if they issue a recall.

Next time I will spend the money... it would be money better spent for the peace of mind and safety. Also have trouble with the tailgate hinge breaking.... hmmmmm.... there are a lot of posts about that also. I just got off the phone with A Nissan Rep and believe me they could care less about Nissan owners with a bad fuel sensor. I quoted several bits of information from this chat and it didn't phase her. You'd think if someone told you your customers think a particular issue they experience is a conspiracy on Nissan's behalf the call would be elevated to a higher authority, but that's not in the script. The only way to get the attention of a big company is with a class action lawsuit that forces them to spend time and money to defend themselves even if we don't get reimbursed. I have to spend $500 for their faulty equipment while they profit from it! This is madness! Someone call 911 and tell them we're being beaten to death by a corporate Zombie trying to eat our brains.

I just had 30, 000 mile service done at dealer while the service light was on, as I thought the light (for engine service) was a reminder for service. Dealer asked for $120 more to diagnose. I refused & only got the basic service done ($200). I took my 2005 Pathfinder to AutoZone, and they connected to machine & gave me a code within a minute. From what I have read so far, it seems expensive to fix but the car is up for inspection next month. I hate to spend $400+ when the vehicle has not even reached 30k miles.

Same Problem 2005 Nissan Frontier. And the kicker is this . If you just let it go and the fuel level sensor decides to completely konk out on you like mine did eventually.I used to work in the car business and understood how to clear the codes to get it past inspection because as someone else correctly stated THIS IS NOT AN EMISSIONS ISSUE and Nissan should be seriously reprimanded for this nonsense. Ok so if you do just clear the code and drive on. EVENTUALLY what happens is the Sensor will completely conk out on you and will send an open circuit (255) to the ECM which is wonderful. Because THEN your car thinks the car(or truck in my case) thinks it's out of gas and won't turn over. Yes that's right even when you have a FULL tank of gas. Which makes the repair EVEN MORE enjoyable because then you have to drain the entire tank. Yes a FULL Freaking gas tank in order to drop it to get to a 100 dollar part . This is a joke and Nissan should cover this. Calls to Consumer affairs are useless. I'm going to be dropping the tank tomorrow to do this repair and I'm not very happy and will NOT buy another Nissan.

My car has 29.5 k miles, but I purchased over 3 years ago, so its out of warranty.I did take this vehicle once (at least) for this reason, while it was under warranty, since I purchased. Then, they cleared the code as it was likely due to loose gas cap - as per them. I went to the dealership today & they offered to give me 10% off the cost (so my cost is ~$450+tax) bummer!

2006 Pathfinder LE (4.0L). Paid $124.00 for new fuel level sensor and new O-Ring. Backed the car up on ramps. Put floor jack underneath fuel tank and removed 2 straps. Disconnected the fuel pump electrical plug, and pressurized line (watch for gas spray), and the return connection (all 3 on top of tank) lowered tank all the way to floor and gained connection to the lock-ring for the fuel pump assembly. Popped off lock-ring and removed fuel pump (fuel pump will compress together and spring back to allow it be removed from tank). Fuel level sensor simply snaps in. Reinstalled fuel pump assembly and followed steps in reverse. Easy fix, limited tools, and 2 hours. Don't give the dealership your hard earned money.

I have a 2005 Pathfinder with this problem. My Service Engine light came on about 2 months ago and I had AutoZone pull the code (free) and it read that the Fuel Level Sensor was faulty, but they don't sell a replacement part. About a week later, the Service Engine light went off by itself, but I'm still experiencing the dashes being displayed for DTE quite often, especially when making a sharp turn. I have to pass emissions by the end of November, but was wondering if the Service Engine light is no longer on does that mean it will pass emissions? Or will the code still be in the ECM and cause me to fail?

So apparently this is no surprise but I have the same fuel sensor and SES issue with my 2006 Xterra (62k miles). Does anyone know if the sensors have actually been fixed (if I were to buy a new one that is)? Judging by the fact that I've seen anywhere from 2005 to 2007 models in this post it sounds like they certainly weren't fixed when this first happened. I'm planning to ignore this and just clear the light for inspections as long as possible but if I ever get to a point where I need to spend the ridiculous $400 or else try to replace this myself I don't want to have the same issue 2 years later (If I don't sell the stupid thing before that).

Same issue here with my 05 Frontier. I ordered a new fuel level sensor and dropped the tank and replaced it. Now my fuel reads correctly however, I get the SES light on every fill up. I even went so far as to purchace a hand held code reader and read the code ( P1446 ) which indicates a bad valve on the carbon canister. Checked it out and it works fine. My code reader can also delete the SES code, so I keep the reader in the truck and simply delete the code on ever fill up. Will never buy another Nissan again.

To anyone who knows anything about fixing anything: Stan posted great instructions for fixing it. It's pretty easy. Nissan should recall this part and fix it, period. As far as the dealerships, that's why they call them "Stealerships". They charge for things at their own discretion, and if you even look like you don't know better then expect to pay double.

We own an '07 Pathfinder with around 57k on it and the same thing has happend to us. Our fuel gauge stopped working and then our 'service engine soon' light came on. We took it to emissions today and it didnt pass because of a "fuel level sensor circuit high input".....By reading these posts I see that it is a common problem with these Nissans. My husband says its an easy fix and we can get the part at an auto part store rather than over paying the dealer to fix it. But i agree, it should be a recall!

My Isuzu Rodeo also has fuel level sensor problem. Please suggest a place where I can fix it cheaper.

I encourage everyone to please file a complaint with Nissan and overwhelm them with grief. All of you know from reading hundreds of complaints on numerous sites that Nissan is aware of this problem. Production has slowed so profit is down. To admit the sensor is faulty would cost them millions and we know now is not the time for a company to forfit that kind of cash. This will pass like everything else and that's what they're counting on. I sent them an e-mail because they never called me back. I held nothing back and I hope they go bankrupt. Nissan built a new plant here in 2003 so We have a lot of Nissan owners here. I tell everyone of them, every chance I get about this issue.

I inherited my father's 2000 Nissan Frontier. I too have the Check Engine Light on and the Nissan Service Dept says it's the Fuel Level Sensor which will cost me $580 to replace. I don't know why anyone would buy a Nissan. My next vehicle will be a Toyota for sure.

Have a 2006 nissan pathfinder with the fuel sensor issue. Looks like Nissan is thinking about today and not the future when it comes to making money. I also have a nissan truck and have gone thru several different sensors. If you want reliability go with the toyota trucks. It is frustrating to hear that Nissan doesn't care to make things right. I'll be sharing what I know with the large circle of car people I know. Word of mouth can help or hurt. Nissan is dropping the ball with the fuel sensor issue. They make great engines but if the sensors eat you alive in costs over time, it defeats the quality of the engine. Hoping for a recall, so I don't have to spread the word daily how Nissan is.

Same issue with my 2006 Pathfinder. My lease is up in a month but I'm guessing they'll try to charge me for the repair if I return it with the SES light on. Has anyone gotten away with turning in a lease vehicle with this problem? I too will never buy another Nissan despite being a long time owner.

I have the same problem. A few weeks ago my service engine light came on on my '05 Pathfinder right after i filled up. I have had numerous issues with it over the past four years, and it's always some sensor that doesn't really affect the performance of the car. So I ignored the light and after about 50 miles it went off, only to return when I filled up the next time. Now, when I fill up, it won't register as full until I've driven a while, at which time the gauge jumps up to full and the service engine light will go out. It has 84, 000 miles on it, and in this time I have replaced the EVAP canister and related parts twice, at a cost of $1, 200 each time. I love my Pathfinder, but I'm sick of spending outrageous amounts of money to keep it going. The second time I fixed the EVAP system, I called Nissan Consumer Affairs about 15 times to see if they would cover the cost of replacement of a system that is obviously faulty, with no one ever returning my calls. They don't care about customer service! I hope this fuel sensor problem turns into a recall.

Same thing with the fuel sensor on my 07 Pathfinder with about 42, 000 miles. Nissan needs to recall this. And it is a safety issue for me when my wife is driving late at night on the interstate, or in a dangerous part of town, and she runs out of gas. Nissan, please recall this issue!!!

I have a 2005 Pathfinder LE and this same problem has been happening for the last 2 months. As soon as the gas tank gets close to half the dte goes haywire. It bounces from 0 to any number near where it probably ought to be and then it flatlines (nothing but dashes) then the service light comes on.This doesn't seem like a part that should have such a high fail rate. Need to push Nissan for the recall.

I have this problem with my 2007 Pathfinder as well. It started around 47, 000 miles. I make sure that I use the odometer to keep track on when the next fill up is. I fill my gas tank at around 300 miles to stay within a safe area so I do not run out of gas. The SEL illuminates and gas gauge drops to empty every time I fill up. I refuse to pay the dealer for this known problem. Will fix problem myself when funds are available. Everyone with this problem needs call Nissan's Consumer Affairs. Number is 1-800-647-7261

Another one in a long list of frustrated customers. X-Terra 05, 30, 000 miles same fuel level sensor issue. It started a few months ago. This is in sunny Puerto Rico. My dealer wanted $300 to fix and I was about to go for it, but then I heard him wondering aloud why Nissan has not made a recall campaign out of this. I am now monitoring my miles and hoping I never get stranded out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. I will call the CS number and file a complaint, will also try consumer groups, EVERYONE PLEASE KEEP THE PRESSURE, THEY WILL NEED TO DO SOMETHING EVENTUALLY.BTW, it's a shame, such a nice car... and I even had my wife almost convinced to buy Nissan, I guess it's no Nissan anymore for me, unless they show some respect for us customers.

Same story here. 2005 Pathfinder bought new, now with 80, 000 miles. Service Engine Soon light comes on after filling the tank. Went to Autozone where they check the on board diagnostics to tell me faulty fuel level sensor. Contacted Nissan through their website. Waiting for an answer.

05 Nissan Pathfinder, Same here. I was low on gas, came to a stop in traffic and all of a sudden the check engine light came on. I went and filled it up my tank and it took a while for the gauge to go up to full but the check engine light still stays on. I went to have it checked by a local company which I have been told that they are not allowed to do any more so they instructed me how to use it. We pulled the code off for the part, and found out how expensive it was when we got home. We also cleared the code. I thought I was good to go only to find out the Check Engine light is back on again. We are di-hard Nissan Car owners. Come on Nissan, stand behind your product!! This is rare for you so step up and satify your client base! We're loyal if you let us be!
