Nissan-Altima - White Smelly Smoke

My 1993 Nissan Altima had a problem warming up. The temp gauge was barely moving up unless I park the car and idle it for more than an hour!! But I would get heat blowing fine. My mechanic worked on it twice and didn't fix the problem! Then suggested that we replace the temp gauge but I felt like there was nothing wrong with the gauge! Fed up with paying but not solving the problem, I went online and from what I read it was obvious it had to do with the Coolant Temperature Sensor. I went to Auto Zone, bought a manual, the temp sensor and the Engine Temp Switch and the appropriate tools! Then I set on the car and pulled out the two parts and plugged in the new ones. This instantly fixed the problem!! I was celebrating until I started the car in the morning and noticed some white smoke (some time will change to bluish) with a chocking smell- the kind of smell that will leave you wanting to blow your nose! I checked the manual again and then I realized that I didn't drain the coolant and per the instructions! I let the coolant flow out through the sensor holes! Could this be the problem? Will it stop? What should I do? I also have some slight oil leaks from the head gasket cover - 1 quartz between oil change and I am not sure if this is the cause of the problem. Someone please help me out.
