Well the 2000 Altima still has the engin soon light on and off and the other day, I drove 1 km to the bank no problem, went to start car and wouldn't start. Thought it was battery, started but stalled instantly, now they have had it since Thurs morn and its now Sat morn and still dont know what it is, maybe the distributor?? Unbelievable!!
I have a 2003 Altima SE 3.5, 90, 000 miles. I just shipped it from Hawaii to Texas a couple weeks ago and I've made a few long trips with it since. Last night in a drive-thru the brakes and steering wheel locked up and I had to stop and restart it, and the SES light was on afterward. Today it did the same thing at a red light and it took a couple tries to restart it. I get the oil changed regularly. From what I read I don't know if it's from the couple of long trips or what.. any ideas??
I have a 2001 Nissan Altima and my SES light is on. I can't complain about the car because I have had to do very little work on it. My car runs good. I had the valve cover gasket replaced twice. With my light on my car starts up immediately and continues to run. The tranny jerks a lot at different accelerated speeds. I will try and replace the oxygen sensor since it is never been replaced to see if this will get the light out. My car has 223, 000 miles on it. My car had 23K+ miles on it when I purchased it. I love my car.
On the other hand my friend has a 2002 Nissan Sentra which she purchased brand new and has had mega problems. All in one month she replaced the catalytic converter, 2 of six oxygen sensors, alternator, fuel pump, 4 injector type things on the front of the engine (car does not have wires and spark plugs), and crank shaft sensor. This cost her almost $2, 500. Thank goodness her car is paid for. Now the motor in her driver side window is gone. I feel there is a definite problem with Nissan cars and Nissan should check and see why most Nissan owners are having similar problems that is extremely costly. Especially for those of us who take good care of our vehicles. By the way why does the Sentra have 2 Catalytic converters, six oxygen sensors? Her car runs very rough after having all those things done.
NUMBER 46 its your spark sensor i had the same issue a few weeks ago now my light just tunred back on.
MOST OF THIS PROBLEMS ABOUT THE CAR STALLING & THEN THIS "FEEL IN LOSS OF POWER" IS DUE TO THE CRANK/SPEED SENSOR; IT IS ONLY ONE SENSOR THAT CONTROLS BOTH CATEGORIES. I HAD THAT PROBLEM WITHIN 23-24K MILES ON MY 06 ALTIMA, LUCKILY FOR ME MY 36K WARRANTY COVERED IT. I RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO CONTACT NISSAN IMMEDIATELY & TO OPEN A CLAIM THROUGH CONSUMER'S AFFAIRS THAT WAY THEY FORCE NISSAN TO MAKE A MASSIVE RECALL SO WE, AS CONSUMERS CAN BE PROTECTED & THIS HORRIBLE THING IS FIXED, AND MAYBE EVEN RECOUP SOME OF THE MONEY MOST OF YOU UNNECESSARILY ALREADY PAID. MORE THAN LIKELY IT WILL BE THE BEST SOLUTION FOR ALL 2004-2008 ALTIMA'S OWNERS. I HOPE THIS INFORMATION HELPS YOU PEOPLE.

2002 Altima with 83, 000 miles. Engine occasionally started hesitating last summer. Replaced spark plugs. Six weeks ago the SES light came on and was flashing. It never came on when the car was cold. It always came on the second time I turned on the engine, usually after a brief errand. It wouldn't act up for the mechanic. Replaced the crankshaft sensor. It has started fine all week in the frigid morning temps, but this morning it started hesitating after a stop on the way to work and SES began flashing. Sounded like it would stall out so at the first stoplight I put it in N and gunned the engine. The light went out and it seems ok right now, but I'm going back to the mechanic on the way home. It's too cold for a disabled vehicle.
I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 127, 000 miles. It snow and i didn't drive my car for five days. I then drove my car to work but while i was driving on the highway the stearing wheel was ticking and pulling to the right. When i got out of work my car didn't start so I got help to jump my car after that my Service Engine Soon light came on and never came off. What can be my problem?
2008 2.5 Altima- my "service engine soon" light just came on this morning for the 1st time. I tried the gas cap thing and drove a block around my neighborhood light is still on. It stays on steady when engine is running no blinking or anything like that. Help!?
I have a 2002 Nissan altima, last yr the SES light came on twice. Took it to dealer & they replaced fuel injection. Not even a month later, did the same thing. Of course took it back, they found something "new" wrong. Another couple hundred dollars. This time I got oil change fri, & sat nite the SES light came on & I couldn't accelerate. It would not go over 10 mph. This is what has happened each time. I stopped, turned off the car & restarted & made it home alrite. We really don't have the $ to take it to the dealer again. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks

I have 2002 nissan altima 2.5S. I got this car last year march for $6000. It has service engine light on, it cranks while getting started and some times it won't start at all.
I showed it to a mechanic. He said you need cam sensor, crank sensor, along with that he even asked me to change the battery. I asked him go ahead and do that and I paid him $600 bugs. Still I got the same cranking, service engine light on problem.
This time I took it to a Landers Mclarty Nissan dealer. He checked it and said you have to change the engine (out of 4cylinders in engine 3 cylinders are not working), he said some harness tampered...he told me that only parts its going to be $4300(engine-$2200, harness tamper--$1200), he said battery is also bad(although I got new battery just 3 months back)..He said if you want to go ahead I will add labour charges to it..I don’t is this guy trying to rip me off…
Then I decided to trade-in the car with Landers Mclarty Nissan dealer itself..and went to talk with sales & marketing guys...they gave me a trade-in value for my car as $300 bugs...I was very upset..as I got the car just 10 months back for $6000 bugs..I dropped the deal they gave me...
I showed it to another mechanic...he checked it and said there is some water accumulated at spark plugs...he cleaned them and he said engine is fine (did some pressure test)..for that he charged me $120..I was happy and car ran well for 4 days..and now service check engine light is on...and again it cranks while starting..
can anybody please give me some suggestions what to do...I’m student…I was frustrated of this stuff going on with me…thanks..
i just swapthe motor on my alitma now the check engine light is on.......code came up crank sensor..........it was givigme problem starting..........now i change the sensor....an still same problem.........
My Altima was bought new in 2005 and it had the SES light about 2 years ago. I did everything, the battery cables, new spark plugs and wires, gas cap, etc. Nothing, light was always on for about 3 months and then one day the car wouldn't start after a short trip. Took the car to the dealer in Nassau County, NY where I bought the car and they fixed it for free. But now, exacthy 18 months later the light is on again and it already failed to start today after a short trip. Then I waited 15 minutes in the cold and it started right away. Guess this car is a POS.
I have a 2005 2.5 Nissan Altima. I was hit and it took my mirror off. I took it to a body shop and they fixed it but when I got the csr back all my stuff was reset( the time, trips a and b mileage, my favorites on the radio etc.) well I checked the battery cable and it was loose so I tightened it up. But also at the same time my power window on the side they fixed the mirrow on when I put it on auto it goes up and then goes back down halfway. I just thought maybe they crossed a wire or something but now my service engine soon light came on. It stays on and my car runs fine. no smells I took it to Autozone and they said it was an electrical short or could be something with TCM.. I was waiting til I got paid to take it to a mechanic but then the light went off, so I was like ok no problems, but then one day when i was sitting in it the doors locked on their own and when I went to start it it acted like it didnt wanna start(kinda like the battery was low, but the battery light wasnt on) and when it turned on the light was back on, I was waiting again and the light went back off after a few trips and the car runs fine while the light is on and off but it keeps comin on and off, always can tell when its coming back on cause the car acts like the battery is low. Can someone please tell me if this is something serious.
my email is firstname.lastname@example.org help is appreciated

Gee wizz... A warranty is intended to help you out when your vehicle is new. Your vehicle gets old like everything else in this world. depending on the climate you live in, the driving habits you've developed, service maintence and even gasoline, your vehicle is bound to develop a problem along the way. I work on VW's and they are great machines when they're working perfect. I have to know how 15 different computers communicate with eachother just to know what I need to do to fix certain issues. Sensors go bad, sometimes in succession. If you don't want to pay the diagnostic fee, well then figure it out on your own. I've gone to school, spent at least $80, 000.00 for that, another $30, 000.00 for tools, and I still have to go to school through out the year to keep up with the technology. Also, I work when it's hot, when it's cold, when everyone else has day off, I'm at work, trying to get my 20.00 for every 100.00 the shop makes. I"ve been working busting knuckles and staying certified for over 15 years. I have knowledge from experience, and you want me to just say, ok I'll fix that for nothing. You jerk! What do you do for living? How bout you do what you do for half your pay for a month while making sure everything you do can be defended in court and smile at your next customer? Tell me how you like it. If you don't know how to diagnose a fault, then let an expert do it. YOu don't go to your butcher for a hair cut, so why would you go to a parts store for diagnostics? That's stupid, ask any reputible service technician, and they'll agree with me. If I was a mean guy, I;d have gone to prison several times for punching all the ignorant customer's I've had to deal with through out the years.

I have a 2001 NISSAN Sentra which turns off randomly. The other day my daughter was on the freeway and it simply turned off.
I've got a 2000 altima and the rpm gauge doesn't work....got a code saying its the engine speed sensor....is this sensor in the distributor? I'm trying to fix it myself to avoid heavy cost...any help on locating this sensor would be great.
I am driving a 2006 Altima. Tonight I pulled over to take a phone call, and without realizing it I was on the phone for about 30 minutes while the car idled. I realized the SES light went on. Gave the car some gas, the light stayed on. I drove it home about 2 miles. It is idling fine, running fine, but the light is still on. The temp gauge is fine as well.
I'm taking it to Auto Zone tomorrow to have them check the code, but I am really nervous about this. It's not my car and I can't afford to fix anything.
Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention, the car has about 28, 000 miles on it. It was in Floriday for 2 years then it has been in Minnesota for 3 years. Litterally owned by a little old lady who didn't drive it often, but it is not one of those "local trips only and never driven over 20 mph" kinda cars.
this worked for me. thanks

Anyone can check the codes in thier nissans.
1.Turn the ignition key to the on position for exactly three seconds
2.Push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and release 5 times within 5 seconds.
3.Wait EXACTLY seven seconds
4.Push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold for ten seconds. At this point the SES light should start flashing the error codes that are stored in the system and you can release the pedal. If you only get five slow flashes or no flashes at all, then your timing was off on one of the above steps and you should start over.
5.Now to clear the codes, push the pedal back down all the way to the floor and hold for at least ten seconds. The light will continue to flash and there's no indication that the codes have been cleared so make sure you time ten seconds or more.
When the ses starts flashing you count the number of flashes. 1-10 10 being 0. There will be a 4 diget code. The first flashs are about .5 of a sec the next three are like .3 sec.
If your engine light is on and your car is under 80k miles, have it checked out asap! This happened to my 2005 Altima and it was the catalytic converter but it was under warranty (warranty ends at 80k but must be original owner). I got mine replaced a week ago but now my light is back on so I have to take it back to the dealership.
I have had so many problems with my Altima, bought it brand new, off the lot and have had the fuel pump replaced, transmission overhauled and new radiator all by 30k miles. Then engine mounts ($850!) and catalytic converter all before 80k miles. I will never own another Nissan!
