Mitsubishi-Eclipse - location of crank timing marks on 90 model SOHC engine

while cruising at high speed, engine lost power and died. Can't find a timing notch or mark on front pully. Can anyone tell me where to look. There is a indentation on the cam sprocket which I assume should be at 12 oclock at TDC, but can't find mark on crank pully (there is a timing pointer at about 10 oclock on the front of the engine) thanks do these engines blow head gaskets often?

The cam sprocket mark needs to be at the top while the crankmark is at the 10 o'clock position you mentioned. There is a mark on the engine for the crank sprocket, but not for the cam sprocket. Chilton's manual has incorrect position for the cam sprocket mark. If you look, there is a mark on the valve cover for the cam sprocket.

Try contacting the auto dealer where you brought your car, as of my view it is the best way to find answers with your questions. Or you might consider searching in the web. Lots of information are in the the net.

I would also not think of taking matters in my own hands. Try going to the auto dealers and they will be able to fix that for you; at a small fee nonetheless.Widjim's advice however seems sufficient. I guess he knows more about cars than any other person in here. It could be that there was a smaller problem that was accelerated with the car cruising at high speed.

I would suggest that you try looking for a professional technical help with this matter. If it is still possible, move your car to an autoshop, the nearest one is the best. I think diagnosing car problems would cost you a little, but it is all worth it, you know, that saves you lots of troubles also, troubles of finding what is wrong with your car.And they can also do all the fixings.

Though very much fond of sports cars, especially of those to the likes of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, I have never heard of what has been mentioned in the beginning of this post.
