Mitsubishi-Eclipse - 1990 1.8 Eclipse oil pressure problem

As soon as engine begins warming up oil pressure drops and at idle engine dies. Last owner said engine made "cards in the spokes" noise but that went away and he thinks it's an oil pump problem. I can't hear any engine noises. Any suggestions?Eldon Caldwell

low oil pressure is often due to a combination of worn main and rod bearings and crankshaft journals. The oil pump itself does not create pressure. It produces flow and the resistance to that flow produces pressure.

THE OIL PSI ON A 1.8 L MOTOR 4G6 IS QUITE LOW TO BEGIN WITH THE OIL PUMP IS PART OF THE FRONT CASE AND RUNS BY THE ENGINES TIMING BELT THERFORE IF IDLE IS LOW ENG OIL PSI IS LOW, ON ALOT OF 90-92 ECLIPSE 1.8 ENGINES THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH WIRING CRIMP LOCATIONS NOT ALLOWING GOOD CURRENT FLOW, AND GAVE SYMPTOMS OF IAC PROBLEMS, (IDLE AIR CONTROL) YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE BATTERY IN THE ENG COMPARTMENT LOCATE THE WIRING HARNESS COMING FROM THE BULK HEAD (FIRE WALL) OPEN UP THE HARNESS UP TO 12 INCHES AND LOOK FOR THE ELEC TAPE COVERING THE WIRE CRIMPS, WHEN YOU LOCATE THE THREE CRIMPS SOLDIER OVER THEM AND THEN WHEN PUT BACK TOGETHER DUE AN IDLE RELEARN, TRY THE IDLE RELEARN 1ST BEFORE THE HARNESS REPAIR... IDLE RELEARN, TURN ON THE IGN SWITCH, WATCH THE THROTTLE CYCLE IT WILL MOVE BACK THE FORWARD VERY SLIGHTLY, WHEN STOPPED UNPLUG THE IAC MOTOR, START THE ENGINE DO NOT USE THE THROTTLE IF THE CAR WILL NOT START TURN THE SSMALL 8MM SCREW ON THE THROTTLE ARE, IT USUALLY HAD WHITE PAINT OVER IT AND A PHILLIPS SCREW CUT IN THE TOP, TURN IT A 1/4 TURN AT A TIME UNTIL THE CAR STARTS AND STAYS RUNNING, WHEN RUNNING LOOK AT THE TACH AND ADJUST UNTIL VEHICLE IDLES AT 750RPMS + OR - 50RPMS TURN OFF THE CAR, PLUG IN IAC MOTOR, TRY THAT FIRST AND SEE IF IT HELPS..
