1. Under hood, disconnet black wire to distributer.2. Unhook the two black vacuum hoses connected to aluminum cannister attached to distributer. Place electrical tape over openings to plug (seal) these two rubber lines.
3. Get a very long artist painbrusth with thin bristles and daub the first vertical line to the left of the (you are facing the engine from the passenger fender) TDC (Top Dead Center point) on the timing comb attached in a hovering over the bottom pully (crankshaft pully). The TDC mark is in the middle of the other lines on the comb-like looking TDC Plate. You will also see a large approx. 1/4 inch horizontal line in the just across the top of the center vertical line.
4. With white paint, insert the long paint brush and white paint the surface area of that center vertical line. You will be able to see it now with the timing light.
5. Disconnect the coil wire at the coil.
6. Crawl underneath the car (I suggest with a 100 watt light) and locate the same crankshaft pully. Unless you have a remote starting unit, have someone snap the starter so that you can see the crankshaft pully advancing in turn, bit by bit. Keep snapping the starter until the pully positions itself to show the very small notch on the innermost rim of the pully. Once you see that, take your paintbrush and white paint the notch.
7. Undo the two bolts holding the distributer in postion (12 mm in size bolts). Undo just enough to be able to turn the distributer, but don't turn it yet.
8. Now hook up the timing light.
9. Start car and shine light on crankshaft pully. The white marks will show distinctly.
Place the pully white mark at the first vertical line (already you marked it in white) to the left of the TDC mark by turning the distributer. When there, tighten distributer. That is 2 degrees BTDC. Turn car off, and put everything back on. Your car is timed.
