engine will not sut off with ign or manuel kill leaver under hood .any help would be greatly accepted .

The 300D engine is has a vacumn controlled shut off. The vacumn pump is located on the injector pump. It is the clear plastic object on top to the rear of the pump. If this is a sudden development the vacumn pump is possibly leaking. Under the hood is a well marked shut off lever, marked stop in red, which will manually shutoff the engine.

I just developed the same problem. Some times it shuts off, and some times it doesn't. The kill lever doesn't work for me either, I have to pull the air hose and stop it with my hand.

Recently had a mechanic adjust my fuel mix and I think he richened it way up, could that be the cause? How do you adjust it? Anybody?

hey guys i have the same problem myself , the stop lever works but the key doesnt , has anyone figured that out yet ?

im looking at buying a 1983 300d that has this problem. the owner showed me that locking the drivers side door (using the key) kills the engine, not sure why. im getting the car to a diesel mechanic to see what they think.
