I just purchased a 1984 300D turbo diesel. When i purchased it, it started and ran while i test drove and drove it home. Since then, it has not started. I have the haynes manual for it, and have gone through all trouble shooting steps, and changed fuel filters. The only thing i have not done is drain the old fuel out of the tank.If anyone has any tips, they would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rob

First things first.- Make sure the battery is good. Perhaps try jumping the battery with another car. Or take the battery to your local auto parts and have them test/charge it. - Your starter motor may be bad. This happened to me the third day I tried to start my 1982 300D. Have some crank the engine while you get down under the car and lightly tap on the starter while the car is being cranked. If it turns over/or tries, you need a new starter motor. I hope this helps you.

I assume it's turning over. I have same problem. After it cools down and sits for more than a few hours it looses its prime. I know this because I have taken the injector lines off and there is no fuel. I am tryig to determine if this is due to a leakey injector or if there is a more likely place to start. If you find out let me know and vise versa. mpeed@mac.com

Hello there!...yesterday I changed the fuel filter on my 300sd 1984....I did a step wrong...I bled the air out and forgot to continue the pump until the buzz was heard... Then I tried starting her....and tried...and tried it almost turned over...I wore the battery down...I then jumped her to no fortune....I charged her over night... No luck on todays attempt...did I flood the engine? What do I do now...:?:)

no i dont believe you flooded it i have this same car and although ive never made this mistake on my car i have on a couple big rigs sometimes it happens when your in a hurry, but don't worry about it. try priming it again then try to restart it you problly just still have air in the line you may need to use a little starting fluid but keep in mind that only a little is required.

Picking up a 1984 300D (Turbo Diesel with 250K miles. I noticed on the left side of steering wheel (on the front console) is a knob. I assume that is the "choke". Also, I've had diesel's in the past(never this old) but I waited for the "glow-plug" to go off so I could start the car and there was no indicator light for the glow-plug. Any suggestions...I'm all ears. Thanks, Nick
