Mazda-Miata MX 5 - New Battery Dead

New Battery replaced the original in my 1994 Miata. I replaced it with a same sized wet cell from Auto Zone. The car started strong for a couple of months. At one point I didn't use the car for about 3 weeks and when I tried to start it I got basically nothing. I jumped it and it started. I then did a 125 mile trip and the next day in a driving thunderstorm I came out and it would not start totally dead. After the rains subsided I was able to jump it and drive back the 125 miles home. When I pulled it in the garage I shut it down and tried to start it rightn back up and NOTHING? Any ideas?

HEllo - I am a bit nervous now, since I just purchased a battery from Auto Zone for my 1994 miata as well. It seems to be working great thus far, but previouds to this battery I had gone to Sears and purchased a CRX battery a bit bigger but it worked for Eight years without a hitch and the battery cost much less, just an idea. Hope this helps!

Mazda shops want over 125 for a new one so buy online for about 90 and self install.I had the car checked for electrical shorts and the problem is COLD Weather! Haven't had one survive two winters, even with the Pansonic orginal! Can someone out there help?

*******ATTENTION MIATA OWNERS*******You would be much better off by switching to an eyelit. Using a battery that has a nut 7 bolt terminal. First, make sure that you have enough slag to cut off your old ones and it stretches enough to meet the new battery's configuration. The MX-5 battery is nothing more than a glorified U-1 Lawn & Garden battery with an automotive top post terminal. By switing to the eyelit (e.g. aftermarket side-post adapter.)you can purchase a battery with 400 CCA for around fifty dollars. I went the professional route and paid for a soldered copper lug on my cables, that cost me about 26 bucks at Interstate Batteries in Minnesota. It's pretty slick and I've been using Lawn Mower batteries for about 6-7 years now. Under good maintaince a battery in the MN climate last about 5 years. I've had ZERO problems.

I have a 1991 Eunos Roadster (imported from Japan). I have owned it for just over 2 years and I'm on my 5th new Mazda battery. My mechanic tells me there is one cell in the battery that keeps shorting out. The car is stone dead, but when boosted will drive forever until you shut it off, then it's stone dead again. Anyone have any tips on what to check or what could be wrong with my little car?
