Our dash lights do not work on cold/damp mornings until the car warms up. Sometimes 50 miles or more. Any ideas what may be wrong?

We bought our 1993 Lexus from TX in 2001 and the dash lights never turn on until the temperature reaches about 65 degrees here, which it rarely does. We live on the north coast of CA. Can anyone figure out what we can do about this?

I contacted Lexus about this problem. It should have been a recall but they said that since it was not a safety issue, then it would not qualify for a recall. I told the person that if Lexus thinks that when my daughter is driving home from college and it is dark outside and her instrument cluster goes out whereby making it impossible for her to see if the car is overheating or if she is low on fuel, nor does she know how fast she is traveling, and you do not think that this is a safety issue? My conclusion is that they are morons. The problem can be fixed. It requires you to be able to replace three electrolytic capacitors that are surface mounted. The difficult part is removing the bad ones. I repaired my daughter's car for around $2.00. I have the complete instructions on my other computer. However, I am not close by it at the present time. I can send it to you.

same thing has happened to me three times with the same car, first time i took it to a dealership and it cost me over i thousand dollars now it's more. Also car used to have a 3'D' look to the instrument cluster but dealership said that it didn't, anyway found a great web site 'intrumentcluster.com' and they fixed it for under two hundred dollars including shipping. Instrument cluster can easy be removed with a phillips screw driver, and tilting the steering wheel down. It took less than two weeks including shipping and repair time. Dealership took my money and didnt fix the cluster to original look, in fact I think they shipped it to the same place and made a lot of money off of me. Also you can have your ECU fixed at a fraction of the cost, that website is ecu direct.com
