March 2009, 4 month old 2008 Jeep Liberty, standard transmission, accelorator sticks at full throttle!!

My adventure started in the early evening as I merged onto the Don Valley Pkwy in Toronto and pushed in the clutch in to shift, while moving from the merge to the main traffic lane, my accelerator took off on it’s own and jammed at full throttle!!!!! (Talk about an attention getter!!) I left the clutch in while trying to figure out what’s happening, where are the 4 way flashers and how am I going to I get this thing off the road!! I’m loosing speed and cars are zooming past on both side of me at 120kl!! I tried turning the key off to see if it would re-start at reg. idle but it only did that once for a few seconds and jumped back to full throttle, (tried that 2 or 3 times) I used the side of my foot to try to figure out if the gas peddle was jammed down but I was able to flap it up and down freely…… finally while still loosing speed, with the engine roaring and expecting to be rear ended any second, in desperation to get out of the flow of traffic and over to the guard rail I jammed the shifter into what I think was 6th gear and at over 6, 000 rpm popped the clutch!!! Well it got me out of the main lanes of traffic and over to the guard rail….. But by the smell I knew there was trouble!! I Crawled out of the car, on the passenger side, in a total daze, pulled myself together and called Road Side Assistance. Of course the person at the other end of the phone had very limited command of English, both speaking and understanding, and an 1 ½ hours later a tow truck showed up to get me home. Only a $350. Tow.

The Chrysler are saying it's my fault the throttle stuck!!
