76 j-20 360 amc motorcraft2100 carb. After driving for a few minutes the engine starts to cut out, and a strong fuel odor apears. also it hesitates at acceleration from the intersection and idle speeds. I have gone thru two power valves and an accelerator pump. After dying it doesn't start for quite a while. All this started since summer came. Man this is getting old.please help, Befor i shoot it.

i have an 86 j20 work truck w/ a carb'd 360 and it seems like i have been suffering from the same problem. it starts fine cold, idles great, seems to run strong but after a while it just cuts out like its starving for fuel. then takes several minutes of cranking to fire up again. i've already replaced/rebuilt the carb, changed the fuel filter by the engine, new coil, new motorcraft ignition box... still have the problem did you ever find out what was wrong w/ yours? please let me know -

you might try to poor some iso-heat in your tank or better yet drain it and fill it with good clean fuel or check you choke it might be staying closed vacum leaks it could be almost anything
