| Transmission Problem. Starts in second gear and won't shift into ODHi, I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's having a transmission problem with error codes such as P0715 P0731 P0734. The symptoms are: wether you start off slow or full throttle it starts rolling in 2nd gear. At full throttle it shifts into 3rd gear at 3, 000 RPM and then stays there. I tested it as high at 130Kph and it does not shift into OverDrive. A couple of times it started in 2nd gear full throttle and shifted to 3rd gear at 3, 000 RPM then at 2, 800 RPM in 3rd gear it downshifted to 2nd gear about 4, 500 to 5, 000 RPM and then shifted back to 3rd gear. This all at full throttle. At NO TIME it shifts into OD. wether you are coasting of throttle on. when you are driving and I lower the speed to allow for it to downshift to 2nd once you floor throttle it does not downshift.. I tried pretty much all speeds all the way down to 30Kph about 20Mph to no avail... The ONLY time it downshifts is when you shift the gear lever to 2nd gear. It WONT go into 1st gear even if you shift it to 1 Gear, wether you shift it before rolling or as you slow to a halt. There are NO strange noises or clucks coming from transmission. nothing indicated a mechanical malfunction. I beleive its some sensor. One thing I do notice is it shifts into gear from standstill a little hard and when you downshift from 3rd gear to 2nd gear as you slow down, it goes into 2nd gear a little hard, it partially locks wheels because it goes into gear hard, (lacks smooth shifting). Can someone please give me some ideas as to what to look for? |

| hey, i helped a friend on his 1996 two wheel drive would not take off in 1st gear it would always take off in 2nd gear. iff you drop the transmission pan you will see in the front corner passenger side two selinoids they say you need to change both at the same time. my friend ordered them off the net for around a hundred dollars but dont know what site. these parts control the shifting. |
| This morning my '05 JGC would only switch into third gear and the engine light came on. I turned it off and on again a few times and it will go into all the gears now but the light is still on. Has anyone else encountered this problem? |
| Sounds like you have a bad selinoid in your transmission. Take it to a local transmission shop and have them look at it. 9 out of 10, its the selinoid. The place will probably recommend to have them all changed. Spend the extra cash and do it. That should fix you right up |
