My Check Engine Light came on (and has stayed on) since I left JiffyLube for an oil change, air filter change, added transmission fluid this morning... I took it back, and the mechanic used the diagnostic tool. It showed nothing wrong. Too coincidental. Anyone know what happened? Thanks in advance for your help

Two things to check, Amanda. FIrst, make sure your gas cap is tightened correctly. That is an easy and common fix to some check engine light issues. Second, pay attention to any gasoline odor after filling the gas tank. This may indicate a slow leak at the o-ring area of the tank, which does set off the sensor.

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The check engine light came on. Jeep said I needed a new gas cap. Check engine light still on. The computer was reset. Light went off for a week then came back on. Service station said it was a small leak in the evap line at the master cylinder. OK. $200 to fix it. Light was off for a week and then came back on. It is still on and I give up.

I have the same problem, my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee check engine light goes on after EVERY oil change. It goes off after a week and then a week later goes back on. My mechanic erases the code each time and it lasts until the next oil change, but this is getting extremely annoying! What is a fix for it cause it has nothing to do with the evap line or gas cap!

Same deal here on my 03 GC Laredo...check engine light is on one minute, the next it's off. New gas cap didn't help. The kicker is that I can smell gas once in a while coming from the engine...and not just after filling up. What the heck does that mean?

I have the same problem. Just changed the oil in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the check engine light came on. Thought I might have put too much oil in the engine or that the oil filter was too tight. Oil levels are in the safe area of the dip stick, and I loosened the oil filter and reset it. Still have a light. Glad to see I am not the only one with this problem. Does anyone know a fix?

I am having a similar problem with my 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L engine. The light comes on, and I tried doing the self-test but my Check Engine light doesn't blink any codes. How fast should you be going from On to Off and On again?

I've been having the same problem over the past few years. Brought it into the Chrysler service center and the first time it happened it was the gas cap leaking that seemed to cure the problem for a while.

Again the engine light was back on, this time the code indicated a problem with a bundle of cables that needed replacing, they claimed it was a slow vacuum leak that was causing the problem. This fix cost me $300. The next week the problem returned, yes that little engine light is back on, this time they indicated that the idler box was very dirty. So, they cleaned it, free of charge! Guess what, the light is back on, and there is a 50/50 chance that it will come back on each and every day.

I'm not sure if Chrysler (Jeep) knows what is really causing this problem, it doesn’t seem to degrade the performance of the vehicle, but is very annoying, tempted to stick a piece of black tape of the sensor indicator light.

Maybe a piece of black tape is the only real fix for this problem!

I have had the same problem for years. After light comes on, after four starts and short trips it will go off, but will come back on without any reason. I took it to my independent serviceman, NOT a Chrysler mechanic. He told me to quit worrying as it does not bother my gas mileage. He says it is the computer reading the type of gasoline that causes it. With all the additives they are putting in the gas now, the computer does not know what is going on, especially the ethanol. He says the ethanol was the worst thing that could happen to an engine.

I also am having the check engine light issue. I have an 03 grand cherokee, and the check engine light has been on for 2 1/2 years. I live in Pa, and have had it inspected twice, cost me 350 each time to "fix" the problem to pass inspection. Now I am coming up on another inspection and the darn light is still on. Fixed 2 different emissions hoses and light went out, but after 2 days exactly botht times it came back on. I don't know what else to do. The only code on it now is p0455, large emissions evap leak. Next step is to drop gas tank, then if that turns up nothing, a cliff will be the next step for old jeep then I guess. Any suggestions? my mom has an 02 liberty with the same issue, I used to love jeeps, this is the third I have owned, 2 wranglers and now my gr.cherokee. But I am considering not buying another jeep.

I went in to get my 2001 ford winstar serviced, because the check engine light was on. It took them almost 8 hours and then they told me that it was still misfiring and that I needed to bring the vehicle back the next day. Well when I brought it back I had to pay for a coil pack and for the labor to install it they assured me that nothing else was wrong and that my check engine light should stay off. Well when I got home the check engine light came back on. I took it back and they said that I needed an some kind of idle speed piece and agan charged me for the part and for the labor. when tthat was fixed they again assured me that the light was not going to come on again. Well my light is back on. What can I do I have spent 750.00 and my check engine light is back on. I really need to know what I should do.

my 2001 Jeep GC engine light comes and goes. Don't sweat it unless you want to spend $$$ and alot of frustration trying to find a tech that can fix it. tha's my experience with anything Chrysler...not bad product, they just can't fix alot of their own problems.

My check engine light just came on again this morning on my 03 JGC. It's been about 6 months since I had it at the dealership for check up and correction the last time. The first time they replaced the gas cap, light went off and all was well. Who knows what's wrong now. Over the past year I've spent a pile of money on it fixing small things that have gone wrong or failed like vacuum lines for the cruise/air vents and so on. This is my second JGC and I don't plan on buying another one after the issues I've had with this one. The transmission slipped and needed a total rebuild at 30K miles, thank goodness it was still under warranty! My check airbag light has been on for a month too, the tech told me it was either the harness or the bag itself to the tune of $1200 to fix. Black electrical tape over the dash light sounds like a better fix to me. I'm hesitant to let anyone touch the Jeep because it's not to long after something else goes wrong with it. Bummer that I just put new tires on it last week.
