Jeep Cherokee electrical problem - Jeep-Cherokee
Jeep Cherokee electrical problemBought 1997 Jeep Cherokee. It had been sitting for over 2 years. Had to replace fuel pump. Got it running and it runs good. Now the gauges, tach, radio and interior lights are not working. Before we got it running we noticed the gas gauge was working intermittently, now not at all. Also noticed when you put key in ignition with door open, there is no door chime. All fuses check ok. Any ideas?

Okay soo my jeep since the day i got it from a friend of mine (for 50 dollars!!) the interior lights will dimly flash on and off. The radio doesnt work and the windows will only roll down from the drivers side controls but one window wont roll down at all. Also i can only use my power locks when all doors are shut. I have no idea what the problem could be and neither do the multiple mechanics ive been to about this problem.. And starting just tonight the speedometer and tachometer were not working for about 15 minutes, granted it was 30 degrees out, but i dont know what all of this means. And now that Ive read everyone elses issues Im worried whats gonna happen next... If someone could help me out ASAP that would be wonderful
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition. I have charged the battery and the Jeep starts fine , runs smooth but if I leave it sitting for a for 3 days without starting it the battery goes dead. If I disconnect the battery after recharging it and leave it sitting for 3 days it's starts without a problem. As long I as start it daily then there isn't a problem with the battery or the Jeep starting. I was hoping someone could give me an idea about where to start with figuring out what is draining the battery? Thanks Keith!
I had the same problem several weeks ago. You need to check for lose prongs on the electric board on the DIMMER switch via removing the cluster panel. It works just fine. Dealer wanted $ 250.00 my son did it for $ 19.99 cost of a welding/saudering kit.

Having a problem with my 1994 Jeep G.C.lmt. Ignition switch all of a sudden quit...it will turn on, dash lights and everthing will work but when you try to start it the switch is sloppy in the start position with no tension to engage the starter.I removed the switch from the column everything looks good except for when you put it in the start position..sloppy, (for lack of a better word to describe it).I also have a remote start on it and that still works well, hit the remote it will start, get in the jeep and put the key in turn it to the on position and away you go...no other problems!? I'm thinking a bad ignition switch or Should I be looking somewhere else?? Anyone out there willing to help steer me in the right direction?? I'm pretty familiar with most problems, starters, relays etc. but never tackled a ignition sw.
Thanks guys...and Gals!
Im having trouble with 98 jeep grand cherokee the number five mini fuse is burning out. At first i thought its a bad relay but I moved them around and they work fine i can get the engine to start only whene i replace the mini fuse again. the number five mini fuse is the automatic shutdown relay, powertrain control module. where do i start looking?
Am having this seemingly common issue with my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It will not start. Simple click when the key is turned, and all the elctronics seem to work. I took the battery out and had it checked at an auto parts store and that is NOT the problem. All advice seems to point to a starter but then, after reading some of the posts here, I'm not too sure. Anyone that can tell me what the heck is going on, please let me know! It happened last week (Saturday) for the first time, and I had it towed to the mechanic, but then, when he started it on Monday morning, it turned over just fine. This is pretty frustrating.
Have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee... pulled into the parking lot and it won't start...no clicking or anything. Jumped it and it would start after a few minutes... then completely dead again. Tried charging the battery...and can get a little action from it (but no start), but after I take the charger off it is completely dead again.
What is the problem? Alternator? Starter (replaced last year)? I assume not the battery since it runs fine once I get it to turn over. Something else?
IT IS CALLED A GREMLIN IT CANNOT BE FIXED YOU CAN REPLACE EVERY SINGLE PART IN THE JEEP AND IT WILL STILL NOT WORK STOP WASTING MONEY ON A HOPELESS CAUSE
Recently bought a '95 JC Laredo 4x4 w 171, 000mi. No problems in the month til the other day. Jiggled the gear shift and was finally able to start it in neutral. Ran for 2-3 days. Happened again last night. Battery good. Hot wired it and headed home. Replaced solenoid that supposedly isn't in Jeep stock(per NAPA and CarQuest) for the starter. No go by key switch. Hot wire yes! Headed to NAPA for ignition switch. Same thing. Put old parts back in and goods. Thinking a horn or start button on dash might work. Tired or climbing under car to get it started.
#144 Thanks Dusty for your thoughts. I'll looking for a Haynes Repair Manual in am.
#141 Chelseabear 134 which the link you mentioned had appeared but will do the research know that I know its out there.
As the saga continues...
"1997 JGC no start / instrument panel not working / car dying out when driving"
Having issues with no start, gas gauge, etc not working on instrument panel and car dying out when driving.
I think I figured 2 of them out but this may solve all 3 issues. Checked all fuses, relays, wiring, all check out ok.
Replaced starter relay with horn relay - instrument gauges turned on and car started. Tried starting again and no go.
Had daughter sit in car and turn key on while i wiggled around the relays in the fuse box. The starter would click. Wiggled the AC/Compressor relay and gauges and car started. To make a long story short - there seems to be an intermittent problem/short with the harness connection on the AC/Compressor Relay. I pulled the relay out about half ways out and seems to be a temporary fix for now.
Looking for replacement part on the fuse panel that sits on the right inner fender under hood. Anyone have any idea where i could find one?
Ref post #17. Ditr4
I have the same problem. Battery goes dead if the car sits for a day or so Got to be a short or something in one of dthe circuits. Which one, I don't know. I am still trying to find a elec circuit diagram for this. Any help please.
"Grand Cherokee Wiring Harness problems"
I have had a problem with auto locks, mirrors, internal lights, windows etc not working. It transpires that their is a basic problem with the earth wire in the wiring loom which shears within the rubber boot/sleeve between drivers door and car body. Go to UTube videos where you will find great American videos which show you how to remove door panel etc to gain access for repair.
It took me 40 minutes and cost £3 to repair and saved £700 which was quoted by main dealer for repair.
