Electric fan

I have 96 Cherokee sport that has a high output 4.0 liter engine that I just replaced.The motor runs great but the problem is the fan.The eletric fan will only come on when I turn on the air or the heat.It will also come on when I take the thermostat temperature sensor lose which is strange because that is the sensor that is supposed to tell the fan to come on at a certain temp.I have already replaced the sensor with a new one and still have had no luck.Help!!!

I would check the engine temp, if it is not running hot , above 190 or prescribed temp you have no need to worry . It will kick on when it gets very hot like idling for awhile in summer. cd

I have the same problem. But my temperature gauge does go too high. The fan does not kick on unless A/C or defroster is on or I unplug the sensor. I have just replaced the sensor and the same thing is happening.

My problem is just the opposite...the fan wont shut off. I had to disconnect it. Any idea why it would do this? Is this just an aux. fan for the engine? If so it doesn't seem to have effected it as it runs at a constaint 210 degrees.
