Jeep-Cherokee - '99 Jeep Cherokee Ltd - electrical issues

I have a 99 cherokee limited, (120k mi on it) and the first thing that happened was the fog lights stopped working. I had the switch replaced several times. never fixed the problem. A/C fan gives same output on level 1 and 2, no one can fix that. heated seats stopped heating in both front seats. automatic seats sound like they are dying, some directions give clicking noises, some directions nothing happens. power windows don't always work for all passengers, depends on the day, but they do always work for the driver seat. The latest is the speakers in the front just went out all together. I know this is probably a variety of issues, but I was told that I may need to have the module reset, which can only be done at a dealer. I was also told that all of these things will likely cost me $300 just to look at. Any advice/suggestions from anyone? Please help, I know my jeep has a lot of life left, I just need to figure this out.

**The fog lights, a/c fan & seat heaters might be cured by replacing some fuses & relays. **Window switches at each door may need replacing. **Auto seats probably need to be replaced. **Front speakers are a radio problem if it still the stock radio. I am assuming that u have a jeep in desent cond. with out rust problems. Hope this helps.

I have a 98 Grand Cherokee with the same foglight problem. I've replaced the switch, but they still don't work. The little green light near the button doesn't come on when I push the foglight switch. All fuses are good.

i have just bought 99 jeep grand cherokee laredo, and couldn't figure out how to turn on the fog light. i pull the tip of the blinker lever, not sure if that's all i have to do but it doesn't seem to work. the fog light indicator comes on though, but no lights :( does this mean they're broken?

I have a 99 cherokee limited and all 7 internal lights stay on. This sends the battery dead overnight. The usual problems have also started: keyless entry acting up, power windows occaisionally working, door locks acting up. I had been removing the fuse from under the bonet everytime i leave the car till i finally removed all the lights bulbs in frustration. The cargo area light had been charred to a crisp, but still works. Could this be related to or causing the problem? I have tried the head light switch, removed the door ajar buttons, removed the panelling from all doors to check for moisture damage- nothing.. Any other bright ideas???

the fuses on that vehicle should be by the passangers feet on the right side( in front of the door. I also have the same problem with the front speakers on my 2001 XJ. also my girlfriend and her sister also have jeep XJ's (a 1999 and a 1989) and they both have the same problem. does anyone know what is going on?

TO JKNThe foglights is a known issue. Yoru jeep dealer has a wiring update kit for the switch. The current wiring overloads the switch, causing it to heat up, making the connections fail. The power window issue is the drivers side window lock button failer. This is also a common bug in the design. You can buy a off-brand drivers side switch the will fix the problem (ebay). The speakers is probably the wiring the goes from the door to the inside under the dash. I had the same problem. The wiring just cracked and killed the speaker. Go to a junk yard and just rip out the wiring essembly for that door. The power seats just need oil. I had to take my seat all the way out and oil the tracks. They get dirty and the motor isnt strong enough to move it along the track. My jeep had all these same problems and these are the steps I took to repair them.

I have had all these problems with my 1999 jeep xj, the speakers i had to replace in the front and the back, the speaker harness does come lose alot, its ushally 25 dollars to fix at a speaker store. My passanger window motor is gone for my power windows, they tell me its going to be 500 just for the whole unit. I just carry some plyers in case. My ac knobs are fine, but when the ac blows out its very light air even on 4 or 5. I dont have power seats, so cant help you on that but i do know its going to be about 700 at a dealership to fix the power seats, my old mercedes was 850.00 if you can get it cheaper god to you. I just bought a good after market kenwood sterio for my jeep and it works perfectly, most jeeps are din 1 1/2 for size, the speakers are 6 1/2 all around but can use 5 1/4

You can have problem 1, problem 2, or both. Problem 1: The brake light socket needs to be lined up with the housing. Note how the brake light socket has 2 metal tabs (one tab in for night running the other is for braking) when you twist close the socket needs to line up with the metal tabs in the housing. Problem 2: Both the housing and the socket are made out of plastic. Over time the plastic becomes weak and the socket moves position and you lose one or both of the contact points. To fix problem 1 and 2 is easy and it should take less then 10 minutes. You will need a Philip head screw diver and some thing heavy enough to trigger the brake light by stepping on the brake pedal . Step 1. trigger the brake light. 2. open the tall gate 3. unscrew the two screws that hold the brake light on the car (screws will be located in the jam of the tall gate.) 4. Locate the brake light socket (white plug in the middle). Twist the socket counter clock wise until the socket comes out (this should be no more then a quarter turn). Check to see if the bulbs is burned or the filament is broken. 5. Replace the bulb back in to the socket 6.INPORTANT turn the socket clock wise (making sure the tabs are lined up) slowly until the brake light lights up (note do not turn the socket all the way until it stops only as far as needed) 7. Reassemble and you are done. I hope this help you out

It's a Jeep, if you can't figure it out, you shouldn't be driving it!
