1998 JEEP CHEROKEE 2 wheel drive Blower fan for A/C and heat will temporarily gout. The fan sometimes will not work when I start up, but if I give it 5-10 min it will suddenly come on and work fine. As I can recall, it has not stopped running while i'm using it. If I cut the engine off for a while and restart, the fan will not work and I have to wait another 5-10 min for it to come back on. Is this a relay problem? If so which specific ISO relay is it. It is not identified with my book or on the relay cover. If its a fan motor problem, is it difficult to replace the blower fan on my own?

I found on my GC that under(behind)the glove box there is a white connector with several wires to it. Two of the had gotten hot and melted enough to make a bad connection and would cause the blower motor to work intermittenty. I am going to cut the bad wires out and splice them together off to the side of the connector. I am not sure if the connector is the culprit by not being able to carry that much current or if the motor is starting to fail and melted the connector in stead of blowing a fuse. I'll try and let you know how it turns out. JH

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport with the same issue. I took a shot at the fan motor first thinking it may have had a bad spot or something but the same problem kept occurring. I now found the relay behind the glove box that if I wiggle it causes the same problem and the relay is very hot (wire melting time coming up). Relay number is 56006709 50732. So the relay may be shot or the selector/know controlling the relay may be letting to much current through? I don't have a wiring diagram, but I think the fan side is good since the blower motor has been replaced. Any other thoughts or experience?

If your heat/ac only works on 1 setting - usually high - then that is the primary symptom of a bad resistor, which would have to be replaced. There's also blend door problems to consider too for intermittent heat. Run a circuit check and buy a new connector also, although, splicing the wires is an idea - maybe with liquid electrical tape over it to help seal/cover the splice?
