speedometer problems

I have a 1987 XK6 that is having a problem with the speedometer. The needle works showing you miles per hour, but the milage counter and trip counter do not work. Do I need a new speedometer or can this one be fixed? If so, does anyone have any suggestions on how to start? Please let me know. Thanks.

it's either you need to replace the socket.. there's a cable that runs down from the speedometer that controls its functions, it might be broken or disconnected.

I have a 1979 Daimler ds420 and the speedometer does not work. I took it out and I don't see anything that seems broken. Any suggestions ?
