speedometer problems

I have a 1987 XK6 that is having a problem with the speedometer. The needle works showing you miles per hour, but the milage counter and trip counter do not work. Do I need a new speedometer or can this one be fixed? If so, does anyone have any suggestions on how to start? Please let me know. Thanks.
