I have a '92 XJ6 that has 2 icons on the upper left side of the dash that stay on when car is started. One looks like a lightbulb with an X through it. The other looks like a lightning bolt. What are these indicating???

The lightbulb with a "X" thru it is telling you that the car has a lamp burnded out somewhere, the "Lightning bolt sounds like a "No 1st Gear switch is on" That is if this has the sport transmission.

How do you reset the Check Engine Light once repair has been made?

Ted, you are correct about the lamp failure, but the lightning bolt indicates that a fuse has blown. To reset the ECM, simply remove the GROUND (black) wire from the battery for 30 seconds then reattach.

Ted and Tim, I have a 1991 XJ6 Soveriegn. I just had my transmission serviced about 2 hours ago. Prior to service I had that lightning bolt as well. It would come and go periodically. On the drive home after having the tranny serviced I noticed that the lightning bolt went out and has not returned yet. I will pay more atention and keep you posted. If a fuse was out it would stay on until the fuse was replaced. I am certain I have no blown fuses. Or do I?
