it should be somewhere in the car or at the house.

Hi, I have a 1994 XJ6 that smokes a lot on start-up but then there is no visible sign of it burning oil. The guy I bought it from said that it had set for a long time and that the fiber piston seals had flat spots on them and some oil was leaking into the cylinder. Does this sound right and is there anything like an oil additive that would help this problem. Thanks

If it only occurs at start up and lasts for a few seconds then don't worry. You probably have a little oil leaking past the valve seats. This is the only downfall to these 4.0 liters as far as I can tell. They are very strong motors. Just make sure to check your oil once a week. Your owners manual will recommend 5w30. Although, in a higher mileage engine 10w30 will slow down oil consumption.
