I think I got some bad gas for my xj6, it misses at idol until it warms up. What filters should I replace? Also, I have steam comeing out the left exhaust after about 1 minute, and hardly any exhaust out the right side. I hear water gurgling in the pipes. The right pipe is fairly cold. Thanks Gerald

The P0300 indicates a general misfire condition. The P0340 indicates the camshaft position sensor circut. I would double-check the harness running to/from the sensor. Especially where it makes sharp bends. Check to see if it was ever pinched by an access cover. Check for broken wire(s) at the connectors. One side of the sensor may be grounded, check for a solid ground. It is also possible (big bucks worry) that the ECU (computer's) input hardware is faulty.

The fuel filter on the Series 1-3 XJ's is in the trunk. Pull out the spare tire and any trim work. It will be either in the very back or off to the right-forward. You may want to consider opening the drains on the fuel tanks (both the small drain and the larger cover) and clear any crud that collected around the pickup screens. However, the exhaust symptoms you describe suggest a possible clogged/poisoned catalytic converter. That is an expensive and difficult 'filter' to replace.

My 2000 S Type misses and hesitates @ 1500 rpm, the check engine light comes on.the engine smoothes out at 2000 rpm and above. the engine light display goes out aslo. While at ildle it sometimes has a slight miss fire but not enough to cause the tach to register the change.Where do I start?

Does the 1995 jaguar xj6 have a cam position sensor ? if so , where is it located ? and can a layman replace it ? or has it a crank position sensor only? my check engine light has been on for about 2 months an is taking longer to crank. Also ocassional i feel a mild surge when driving. Mechanic said code indicate cam position system . Thanks for any assistance.

I have a '95 XJ6--check engine light has been on a couple of months. Mechanic put it on the computer and said the catalytic converter is going bad. Costs more than the car is worth to replace, of course. First question: what will happen if I don't replace the cc? Secondly, can the cc be removed or disconnected?
