Isuzu-Trooper II - won't idle... stalls like the ignition was turned off

Question: my 86 conventionally aspirated gas 4 banger has decided it won't idle -- let off the gas and it stops. Doesn't really "die", it just quits running. Had 3 mechanics try lots of things (carb rebuild, fuel cutoff solenoid, electrical grounding) to temporarily fix it, but now it's back to its old ways. I've just done plugs, rotor and cap (which solved a lot of ills during its life so far) as well as PCV valve -- it ran for a few minutes and then boom, it was like the ignition was switched off (it wasn't though). Only really odd thing is that the idle adjust that used to work (I'd set the idle a bit high and it would say running) doesn't seem to do a thing at all anymore. If you keep the gas slightly depressed, it will run roughly. Any ideas? Thanks Kim

HELLOIF FUEL INJECTED, CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS AND PLACE NEW FUEL FILTER ON VEHICLE, USUALLY THEY ARE IN YOUR GAS TANK AND GET CLOGGED ALOT, THEN CHECK THE CENTER DISTRIBUTOR WIRE THAT GOES TO YOUR SELANOID, MAKE SURE IT IS TIGHT.IT COULD ALSO BE YOUR TIMING CHAIN HAS SLIPPED AND YOUR TIMING IS OFF AND NEEDS TO BE RETIMED OR MAYBE A NEW TIMING GEAR AND CHAIN INSTALLED.ITS JUST SUGGESTIONS.GET A GOOD MECHANIC AND ASK HIM THE ITEMS I LISTED..GOOD LUCK IF YOU HAVE HAD NEW PLUGS, WIRES, CARB REBUILT, CAP AND ROTOR, THEN WHOEVER IS WORKING ON IT ISNT LOOKING TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM, SEEMS LIKE TO LOOKING TO EMPTY YOUR WALLET.

check your ignition control module. that seems to be a recurring theme with stalling on the troopers. have any more questions? feel free to email me.

Hi My 1988 Isuzu Trooper 2.6 l. doesn't get any spark on third and fourth plugs. I checked resistance on the plug wires and cap and replaced dist. rotor. Engine cran ks and runs roughly with only 2 cylinders running. Can it be power transistor or distributor at fault ?

i have had the same thing. we tried everything. finally we put new gaskets on the carb because they were rotten and causeing vacuum leaks and it helped but still not 100%. finally figured out it is the shaft for the throttle plate that holds the butterfly valves on were wore out had play in it causing vacuum leaks. so now i am looking for an old carb to replace all this. please reply if this helps.
