98 passport gas gauge

I just purchased a 98 passport, great suv, but the gas gauge reads empty and the light flashes. just wandering if anybody else had this problem. dont know if it is a sensor and how easy is it to fix, can i do it myself

I would try and contact a parts store or a mechanic and dont go by what someone tells you on here, because they could tell you its not a problem and than it could be.
