I have a 2005 CRV, within the last couple of months the in car DVD Sat Nav has started playing up and is now showing ''DVD disc is reading an error'' I have tried a new disc and the error is the same!!! any suggestions

I had the same fault. The whole unit had to be replaced.

Mine went pear shaped as well. Tried all the usual, dvd cleaners as well. Nothing worked. Then when cleaning my glasses with Boots Lens Cleaner, I thought why not? Nothing to loose. So I cleaned the dvd with the lens cleaner, then sprayed the cleaner onto the glasses cloth, got a plastic spoon and put it on the handle. Slowly and carefully, I placed it in the crv dvd aperture, wiggled it about back and forth, left and right several times. Another spray and repeated. Then I put the dvd in and it loaded! I did a force download and it is now back to normal, better than it was in the first place. Not sure how long it will last though - and I still prefer my tomtom, but at least I have the proper display on my CRV now as it was, rather than that stupid bloody message dvd error which was really getting to me. Has to be worth a go if nothing else works. I think the motto for this crappy satnav system has to be Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati.

Mine whent wrong , 'and after some price check's from Honda, set about with a M&S knife and a wet one WRAP WET ONE AROUND PLASTIC KNIFE TIGHT AND SHOVE IN DVD SLOT , HOLD ON TIGHT TO CLOTH, MOVE AROUND SLOWLY MORE TO THE RIGHT. DO THIS FOR 2 MIN, THEN REPLACE DISC, IT WORK FOR ME, .....SORRY HONDA.

My 06 CRV could soon be on its 3rd sat nav system. Spoke to Honda European HQ in the UK to ask if what Honda Spain told was true. What Honda Cotri Marbella said it was a known fault that the older sat nav systems kept failing. The newer cars i.e from 2008 onwards should not suffer the same problems. I then got a Spanish shrug indicating that if I wanted to repair the system I'd need to pay - tough luck basically.

Will wait to see if HQ has any further news for me. If you want to call HQ the number is +44 1753 590 500.

The more calls the better. If this is a "known fault" then surely Honda should be up front about it and remedy the problem.

There is a THIRD PARTY replacement about to hit the streets. It is a DIRECT REPLACEMENT for the Honda DVD/CD system in the CRV and allows maps to be updated using already available ones from another provider. The product will be available on eBay soon with a price of about £200 including hardware, software and maps. Updates will cost about £25/year.

Can't say more because I work for the company which is about to launch this.

Honda will be so upset, but it wouldn't be possible if their prices and service had been at a more generous price !

Thanks for the advice. My sat nav has been displaying the error message for some time. Some gentle treatment with a thin cloth some glasses cleaner and a thin blade allowed me to clean the inside and it works once again.

Does anyone have a copy of the Honda (Alpine) sat nav operating instructions? Any format, hard copy, electronic, CD-rom. I'll happily reimburse shipping costs.

I have a 54 plate Accord using the same unit as the CRV.I bought it and it said error reading disk so stupidly went and bought a new disk (€250).Now I am still getting that error.It works every now and again. Will it get worse? Also annonCRVdriver has that new software and hardware been released?
