Help ! Drove the Geo to the store...when I came out at 9pm...only cranked. Couldn't push start it (Manual trans). Chevy wanted 1300 for a new ECM, which I had rebuilt instead. When I reinstalled the (successfully tested) rebuilt ECM, it still ONLY CRANKS. I put gas in the tank (in case guage was wrong), changed spark plugs, tried starting fluid...Everything. Does anyone have suggestions? I've had this car forever with NO problems, and think it's too early to send it to the crusher (only 40K miles even tough 13 years old). Email : DacLSU89@aol.com. If fuel pump is gone, it will just crank. Had that problem with my '91 Tracker. But I did have spark so putting gas or starter fluid down the throttle body should have got a kick.

You may want to check the wiring behind the driver side tail light. I can't remember which wires control the fuel pump back there but I had to replace the big harness connector because it was fried due to water and salt.

my geo won;t start just crank but i put a battery charger on in start boose and it started but won't start with out it. also a relay under the dash catters.if you find a similer problem e-mail me reddave@msn.com

I just had to have the wiring harness in the rear of my 96 replaced due to corrosion and melting. Have yours checked out. May not be getting power to the fuel pump.

Listen for power to the fuel pump.... put your ear next to gas gap or under tank... should be noticable sound on any working fuel pump....

I GOT MINE IN 3 DAYS YOU PAY $75.00 THEY SEND YOU ONE BUT YOU HAVE TO MAIL YOUR OLD ECM BACK WITH IN 10 DAYS TO ACTIVATE THE WARRANTY . NOT A BAD DEAL . I HAVE HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS.

just went thru some of this. no fuel was orig problem.first check to see if fuel pump is working. like other guy said, listen for pump, if not check fuse & relay. if ok, before u drop ur gas tank, open driver side rear tail light..then pull harness up and check the pink wire..this one controls power to fuel pump, i have 2 geos, both have history of burnt wire in harness link, due to corrosion. i use a hot wire from battery to pink wire via pin probe if pump works, which mine did, then it will save a lot of hassle of dropping tank. if not, assume that ur pump is dead. if harness connector bad. i cut pink on both sides of connector and put in a splice wire to git r done.but i did not think to check web till after..i dropped two gas tanks, changedd out two pcm's, one that i fried attempting to fix a problem that did not exist. and changed out a turn signal switch. still have problem with engine stop when brake is depressed. will work on it, if some one knows past this.. pls post asap. thanks

I have a Geo Tracker Fuel Injection 1.6L 16Valve 1995.

It runs OK and soft (idle speed 800 RPM when temperature is normal), but the panel shows all the time the following message: CHECK ENGINE.

I don't know why.

I disconnect the negative cable to the battery for more than 10 seconds, I connect again and the message CHECK ENGINE stays on. In this case, it's not possible to do the test from the connector tester.

Than, I will apreciate your help to solve this problem.

Im regretting my experiment , I put 1 gallon of straight methonal in the empty tank of a 91 tracker to see if it ran, it barely ran, the fuel pump stopped and I noticed the fuel pump relay chattering. It will run with gas poured into intake. Is it a coincidence or a direct result of the methonal [wood alcohol] .
