Geo-Metro - engine losing power, getting too much fuel..now doesn't run at all

I just had my 91 sprint (geo Metro) engine rebuilt about 1000 mi ago. After a while, I noticed that my fuel milage was decreasing, and the power( what little there is to start with) as ebbing, until I could not even get top 50 mph. Now it will not start at all, only sputters on cold startup. I believe that it is getting far too mych fuel. I have replaced the fuel filter, plugs wires cap rotor, and o2 sensor, as well as checked the exhaust freedom of flow. The tps and MAP sensor are functioning, as far as i can tell. Any suggestions out there....all help greatly appreciated! Phil

Good guess is your computer has gone faulty. That was my problem with a 1992 Geo Metro 1.0 Liter.

I say it's a tranny problem Scotty Kilmer from Scottykilmer.com told me that the trannies are notoriously weak. My guess is it's giving out. Here's Scotty's response to me."You can just replace the torque converter and it might solve your problem. BUT, from my experience with those Geos, the trannies are just pretty weak and yours is probably just on its last legs. Rebuilding them costs a lot of money to do correctly, and most junk yard units will be not much better than what you have now. IF you could find a used tranny that came from Japan (people like Unitex import them) and have that installed if the torque converter didn't fix it. P.S. please tell all your friends about my www.scottykilmer.com website and always ask me questions directly from my site. Don't directly e mail me from your computer, try to always e mail me from the site as I need lots of hits to keep my sponsors happy so I can continue on helping people. A direct e mail doesn't help my hits out, the e mail has to come from one of the "e mail Scotty" sections of my website. And be sure to tell all your friends about my website. Thanks, Scotty Kilmer"

I've had the same trouble, seems to be worse with 1991-1992 models with high mileage. One time I had a running 91 and a 91 with this exact same problem, and both were the XFI model. I started exchanging parts, every sensor , injector, etc would run in the running car and not in the non-running car. Even exchanged engine computers and the non-running car computer worked in the running car. I finally gave up and crushed the dang thing. My guess is there is a gremlin in the wiring, a gound somewhere, somthing of that sort that allows power back to the injector when it shouldn't be there and the power feedback lets the injector stay open way too much...if anyone figures this out please let me know, I think there are a lot of cars out there with the exact same problemthanks AY

My mom has a 1990 Geo Metro and it has new wires plugs, cap, rotor. It seems like the fule in jector is coged. The swrews won't come loose. Im not shure what to do. It barely runs. To take it to the shop will cost a lot of money. I need sugestions. Im just a shade tree mecanic. Ps it has a new fuel filter already.

Sincerely I'm kind of stuck also, Same thing on mine it's a 97 1.3L w auto trans... gas pedal is too deep to get it on the way... it's excessive at mornings after started up. Once it reaches normal temp situation goes better, but not much, Fuel mileage went higher due to we have to go with pedal too depressed the whole day, otherwise only 30 miles per hour or so... if we climb a small trace got worse. thinking about converter... however the fact it works better after a while turned on... confuse me.

It seems you have checked it out fairly thoroughly, but just in case: Have you examined the spark plugs for deposits, etc. and checked the compression?
