I have Geo Metro that has low power on take off but seems to build up after running a while...at take off means from stops at any time.

Also the timing flucuates from 5 to 10 degrees whilke idling.

Can any one help?? To nast of weather for motorcycle on long trips now. :-{{

A friend of mine had a similar problem - turned out the timing was way retarded, it would 'bog' until the rpms spooled up enough to activate the mechanical advance. Mine, just yesterday developed a behavior like yours, and is showing a 51 trouble code (ecm/prom).If I remember right, in most cars of that era, the ecm has a default to 'limp' mode if the ecm goes bad. This gives decreased performance but gets you to the garage.I vaguely remember that in some cars the ecm couldn't tell you it was bad. The same goes for when the O2 sensor goes out, (OBD code 13) it will default to a rich mixture, which may cause load up at an idle and a miss if a plug is marginal(your timing variance due to rpm).

Try reading the codes - insert a spare fuse in the raised empty slot in the fuse panel turn the ignition to on and count the blinks of the engine light. OBD-codes.com for the list. Good luck.

Just get your car fixed because that is the only way to bringing it back to operation. Jerry seems to have more knowledge on the same. The ability to appropriately read codes seems like your only way out.

I figured out typing in his web address for easy access would do you good so, here you go.

That was a good link there moy, i got the idea of breaking codes there, but i still have to make things work for me, but atleast i have the idea now.

I think Jerry also had a good point over the topic, and while reading his post i think the original poster could have got some clue and some sort of answer.

However, we can always look forward for a new poster.
