97 Metro sputters and hesitates when engine is under load

My metro started to sputter when I depress the accelerator past half way. However if the vehicle is in park the engine revs fine. Can anyone help with this problem?

Try your fuel filter, It probably has never been changed. and toss in a bottle of Fuel injection treatment or cleaner.
