I just removed an engine and trans unit from a 1996 Geo Metro LSI 1.3 (4-cyl) automatic and placed it into a 1995 Geo Metro with same engine/trans combination. The 95 was tired and motor made lots of noise and 96 has only 25, 000 actual miles on it.Here is the problem: Everything went beautifully...the only changes I noticed at first was the EGR valve and hoses had to be switched as well as the thermostat housing with extra sensor...ALL else seemed to connect and snap in perfectly.....and then...
I was searching for the wiring harness on the 95 that had just had the 96 engine put in it and I had the Crank Sensor in front of the oil pan with not connector on the 95 harness to plug into it...
I had looked at and compared the two motors for many many things and all of the sudden, I realized that the 96 has a crank sensor and the 95 does not....???
Soooo, I have the 96 motor in the 95 and she starts up but it is running like crap and won't accellerate at all. I ran this engine in the 96 chasis before I bought it and it ran fine....what do I have to do?
I'm thinking that I might have to pull the harness and computer out of the 96 and put it into the 95...??? Is that correct...
I just can't figure it out...the 95 did not need a crank sensor and the distributors are the same....??? Am I missing a cam sensor somewhere or some other means for controlling spark timing on the 95?
Any questions/answers or other helpful information will be greatly appreciated.
