My 1995 3-cylinder 5 speed manual, timing retards on acceleration and has no power, Slowly revs up and timing recovers. Any suggestions as to cause and solution?

95 geo metro additional info: trouble code flashs 12 which means everything OK. tried different distributers but no change. This model has no vacuum advance or centrifical force advance in distributer. Is controlled by ECM. Tried different ECM, no change. Tried different throttle bodies, no change. Changed gas tank with different fuel pump, no change. What next?
