GMC-1500 Pickup - 94 GMC Oil pan removal

I've got a 94 GMC, 350 engine, that has developed a loud clanging noice in the engine. I've drained the oil and looked for metal in the oil, nothing found. Now I'm removing the oil pan to take a look inside to see if I have a problem with rods, etc. I've removed all the bolts holding the pan in place but the pan will not slide down and back far enough to allow me to drop in down and out of the way. There are two bolts at the front of the pan that I removed nuts from that seem to be the problem. They will not allow the pan to drop down far enough. They are star headed bolts that may have to be removed. Can anyone give me guidance on this issue? If anyone has the procedures for this maintenance please send to the e-mail address I have provided.

I have a 1993 GMC Extended Cab 4x4 Sierra. My mechanic is going to change my pan next week because its rusted through and leaking oil He said its a three and a half hour job because he has to take mount bolts off to drop the differential down. You cant get enough clearance because the oil pump pickup tube with the screen on the end wont clear unless u drop that differential down. I am guessing that you took two nuts off a connecting rod cap. Those have to be torqued to the proper amount when installing them back on if those are the ones...Hope that helps some..good luck!
