hard shifting out of park

I have a 1997 ford Thunderbird with a 3.8L engine. My question is I'm having trouble shifting it out of park. I have to realy smash the brake down to engage the safety switch to get it out of park or before I start it I can push the brake pedal a little and shift it to neutral then start it. Is there anyway to by pass the safety switch or is it repaleable or is ther another problem like the brake booster ? Thank you Sam Degonia

I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH NEUTRAL SWITCH, HAD ONE PUT ON ONE YEAR AGO. HOW DO I GET TO IT TO ADJUST IT.THE GUY TOLD ME IT WAS ON TOP OF TRANSMISSION, IS THAT RIGHT.HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT GETTING TO IT THANK YOU DONNA
