Ford-Taurus - 97 Ford Taurus DOHC Thermostat

I replaced the thermostat on my 1997 Ford Taurus DOHC 6cyl and now have a leak in the housing unit. As taken apart (I don't believe I have this messed up), I put in the gasket, then the thermostat than the lower housing. Unfortunately the Haynes manual is useless and no pictures; it surprises me of the setup however as the lower to upper housing is metal on metal. e.g. Upper Housing (inner flat area for ring/thermostat to be set, and outer lower tappered cone shaped area for lower housing of metal on metal to slide into), then the rubber o-ring, thermostat, lastly lower housing secured w/ 2 screws. MAYBE I screwed up, and the o-ring goes after the thermostat, but... it is not what I thought nor what the automotive store has told me, nor would it appear to stay in place. Any thoughts on where I might find a PICTURE for this and if you have a recommendation on how to secure the metal/metal area to prevent leaking?
