Ford-Festiva -
changing wheel/tire size from 12 inch to 13 on my festiva

Dewey Patterson (209.198.108.162) - Sat May 17 13:20:46 2008

A casual acquaintance told me last year that he had changed the wheels on his 1990 Festiva to an older Mazda 13 inch wheel (which fits without any problems) that enabled him to consider a much wider range of tire brands (in fact it's getting hard to find any 12 inch tires now). I have forgotten the detail of what Mazda model wheels he had used. Anyone have an idea?

Try a Geo Metro wheel. They are thirteen inch.

I too am interested in changing the tire size but would this not effect the speedometer and odometer? Let me know if you find a replacement 13" wheel/tire.

I have a 1990 Festiva and I just put on a 13" wheel from a toyota . It fits just fine so I will find a tire that clears the wheel wells . I know that 13" wheels were an option when the car was new, so I should be able to upgrade the speedo gear from the dealer. These cars were made by Kia so most Japanese wheels should fit it.

Reply #4 rRick Schubmehl (98.108.198.46) - Sun Jul 20 03:19:26 2008

I replaced the stock 12" wheels with 13" x 5" wheels from a Mazda 323 14 years ago. I've used 175/60 13" tires with them, the overall diameter matches to within a millimeter. The handling and braking improved tremendously, my Festiva feels like a sports car. Unfortunately, it's getting difficult to find tires in this size as well, so I suggest checking to be sure you find some tires that will fit before trading wheels. TireRack said 185/60 13's would fit, but they rubbed on the inside. I'd stil suggest checking with themat 1-800-981-3782.

Are there any 12" trailer tires that could be used on a Ford Festiva? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Shanon

You may find some, but finding someone to install them is another story, and this is because it would be very unsafe.

12" trailer tires would fit but they are all bias-ply and you dont want that. 12" tires are available, try TireRack.com they have Yokohamas.

Reply #9 linda (75.41.22.40) - Tue Sep 30 15:32:51 2008

Has anyone had any luck finding any 13 inch wheels recently for a festiva? If so, when and where. Thanks for your response(s).

Reply #10 Bert (64.230.1.60) - Thu Oct 30 08:26:35 2008

Wheel stud spacing is 4 1/2 inch across on Festivas and not a very common pattern. Late 80s Mazdas (323 I think) have that same spacing in 13 inch wheels and so do Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro models from the 90s. Apparently there are also some Hyundai cars with 4 1/2 spacing. Now, wheel 'offset' may necessitate installing spacers between the hub and rim to keep the tires from rubbing on the suspension. I have so far not had any luck adapting stock 13" rims. Canadian Tire in Canada still sells snows and summer tires for Festivas and you can shop on-line or at least find out which store has them in stock. I just bought 2 tires yesterday for $71. The Motomaster AW series 145/80R12s may be inexpensive but have so far served me quite a bit better than the Cooper brand or the now-discontinued Walmart wheels.

if you watch the black tyre as you input the sizes it gives you a

better view if you are changing tyre/rim sizes, have a play, its

a bit slow but should give you a better decision making tool ,

happy motoring

13" wheels? ha, I installed 14" five star mags, from americain raceing, with 185/60/R14rubber, the only changes I had to make to the body were done by swelling the rear wheelwells out with the cars tire jack between the wheelwell and the 1/4 panels flange. to cool Fiestiva Rick

Ford Festiva; changing wheel/tire size from 12 inch to 13 on my festiva automobile forum

The geo metro wheels will fit your festiva, The center of the wheel will need to be ground down to allow the festiva center cap to fit. I used 175/70R13 tires they do rub on the rear strut when a bump is hit so what I did was grind part of the spring support out on the strut , tire only rubs when a big bump is hit.I would go with a 155/80R13 tire.your speedometer will be off also.GOOD LUCK 12"TIRES ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND

You cant put a 14 inch wheel under a festiva, without a lot of fab work, I have a set of 20's with z195/25/20 tires, and that was a bitch getting them in there, I replaced all the struts, and had to have everything completely fabbed. biggest tire stock you can fit without work are 165/55/13

Sorry Guys, , The 145 80 R 12 Tires Went FAST !!!!!!!!!

Good Luck In Yo' Further Search !!!!!

Reply #24 Quint Schubmehl (98.108.205.108) - Thu Jul 23 19:17:29 2009

I have a '91 Festiva, and, just like the other Schubmehl replying to this, I replaced the wheels with 13's from a Mazda Z323, and 175/60/13 tires(Falken Ziex ZE 512's were great, but they stopped making that size). I've never enjoyed driving a car as much as the Festiva with these wheels/tires. I called Tire Rack, and they told me Sumitomos 185/60/13 would fit, but they rubbed on the inside over bumps. You'd think after ONE customers told them this doesn't work, they'd stop recommending this, but maybe they don't believe people named Schubmehl.

Anyway...Try contacting a junkyard/recycler for 13" rims. They're not likely to have an old Mazda 323 themselves, but can probably obtain them from another junkyard. Mine were only $25 apiece. OnlineTires.com lists a Federal Fuzion tire in 175/60/13, it's H speed rated and its mileage rating is 480, pretty good for $37.

TireRack.com carries Yokohamas in both 145/R12 and 165/70/R12 sizes for $40 & $50 respectively.

Reply #26 Andy (159.182.1.4) - Mon Aug 24 17:20:19 2009

I'm happy! My tires have been bad for a while and one finally blew out, leaving me with an expense I was trying to put off as long as I can. But to my joy I discovered that the wheels off of the '93 Hyundai Excel in the back yard fit my '91 Festiva! I went to 155/80R13 so the speedometer is off, but I can live that.

Question for those who use the tire size calculator at http://www.miata.net /garage/tirecalc.html, what do you enter when the source tire is 145/12?

Reply #27 David (216.137.231.198) - Sun Sep 6 16:56:48 2009

I just changed to a 14x6 wheel with a 185/60R14 tire. The only thing I had to modify was the rear struts for clearence. And my speedo is only off 3 MPH at 65.

I talked to big O and they said 90's honda accord wheels use the same pattern.
