'88 7.3 Diesel starts real hard when warm.....

I have an '88 F-350 with a non-turbo IHC 7.3 in it with less than 20K miles on a rebuilt motor from Ford. It does 2 things - it eats glow plugs on #2 and #6 and when I shut it off warm and let it sit for more than about 30 minutes it's nearly impossible to get it start back up. Timing is right on, pump was checked and they say it's fine. No air leaks in the system that we can find. Electrical system was all tested and it appears to be OK. It just doesn't seem to want to get fuel until I let it get virtually cold. This is getting real frustrating as none of the diesel guru's seem to have any answers. Does anybody know what could be causing this?
